There are a couple copies on ebay for $70 and $80. I'll keep an eye out, but I might get the edition in the metal case since most of the content on the missing discs is in my 2005 DVD set.

Local Best Buy had numerous copies in stock tonight at $12.99 - I own a ridiculous number of versions dating back to laserdisc special edition, but I paid lots more for that version, so what's another $12.99 to get the remastered 3-D version?

I'm looking at the database entries for the 70th Anniversary Edition and each entry seems to have more or less compared to the others, especially in terms of subtitles and audio tracks. I was hoping that a knowledgable person could determine which is the accurate entry so that the other entries may be updated accordingly.

Does this version of the Wizard of Oz blu ray have the original mono track? https://www.amazon.com/Wizard-Oz-Blu...8137331&sr=8-1

The slip cover I have says 75th anniversary if that matters. It's still sealed so I can return it if I need to.

Is this the same "amazing" 3D transfer on the U.S. release? Honestly I don't know wtf is going on here, a bunch of digital tinkering like I've never seen, particularly in that first sepia cap.
http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=1779&d2=4058&c=667

The 2009 VC-1 transfer wins by default due to not being maligned by crazy manipulation. It's like someone just had fun expanding and stretching and copying/pasting objects in Photoshop. But the 2009 transfer is also more detailed. Has no one seriously caught this before? Or is the Australian release a distorted anomaly?

It's meant to be viewed in 3D. The manipulations were done for the 3D effect. The releases are indentical.

I suppose I can't comment until I've seen the transfer with my eyes. They look like such random changes, really unsightly. So these caps are from only one perspective? (left or right eye)

Yes, the caps you see of any MVC encoded 3D Blu-ray are usually from the left eye image because the right eye is encoded as the difference between the two 'eyes' and not as a fully rendered frame IIRC, it's part of the magic of Blu-ray that it then reconstructs and outputs the full HD 3D image (in a frame-packed 1920x2205 format) during 3D playback.

I was trying to figure out if there are any major differences between the 70 and 75th releases, and didn't come across any discussion about it. I compared the two and it looks like the restoration feature on the 70 is not on the 75th. I checked both discs from each version. And I think one new feature on the 75th? The extras are split differently and laid out differently between the two so it was tricky to compare. They both have original mono tracks, just thinking about selling the extra copy and don't want to miss out on anything.

Also I was trying to find any reference to the alternate MGM opening with Toto barking instead of the lion. Is it available on the Blu? I was watching the DVD on our bedroom TV trying to get her to sleep last night, but she stayed awake the whole way through. When the movie cycled back to the menu I started it again but it opened with Toto barking, one bark, two quick barks, then one more bark, then it went to the movie. My daughter that was funny and I had forgotten about it, I remember seeing that version when I was a kid. I thought maybe it had defaulted to some featurette with that opening, but it was still the full movie. She finally fell asleep about 20 minutes later so I turned off the TV and put her to bed. I started it up again and tried to get that alternate logo to come up. I even skipped chapters to the very end and let it play through the anti-piracy warning again until the menu showed up. I tried starting it from the main menu with "play movie" and started it from the scene selection and it was still only the lion version. I went through some of the special features and none of them started with it. Maybe you have to let it play all the way through without skipping chapters?

I did easter egg searches and even google searches to find a reference to it but found nothing. Maybe I'll try it again tonight. I"m wondering if it could also be accessed on a dvd-rom through an individual title search, like some of the hidden logo stuff on Kiss the Girls or Last of the Mohicans. Also, this was on the 75th box set release of the DVD. I still have the 4 disc DVD set in a box, I should check that one out too.

I'm a bit confused here. Surely the 2D version, even with the glitch, would be preferable to the 3D version forced to 2D. The movement of foreground/background objects made for the 3D version would make it undesirable to be viewed in 2D, would it not? I mean, the 3D manipulations wouldn't go away simply because 3D is turned off would they?

Please forgive the double post but I one more question: Is the 3D restoration derived from the same scan as the 2D version from 2009? I took a look at the caps-a-holic comparisons and, other than the rather disturbing warping of characters and objects in the 3D version, there does not appear to be any difference in detail.

I seem to remember it is different. Perhaps an 8k scan?

I'm still trying to understand this 3D stuff. Take a look at the comparisons here of the 3D vs 2D versions: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=4058&d2=1779&c=667

See how the objects and characters on the 3D version have been manipulated? What I'm wondering is if I force this to 2D, will those manipulations be visible? or will I be seeing the proper 2D image without the movement of the background and foreground objects?
