Thank you! I saw the same thing and my friend says I'm crazy. There is a big difference in both saturation and depth of color - so much I got rid of my 3D BD.

Never read it or saw it.

But I did find this scene a bit sensual in a way. You've got a beautiful woman (Glinda) chained up with Evanora basically saying "I've been looking forward to torturing you for a long time because I hate that pretty face."

I wouldn't have gone that far! The disc is excellent just desaturated as are many 3-d bluray's. A good rough fix is bump up your color saturation roughly 60%. On my Panasonic VT60 I pushed my color up to 83-87 from it's normal setting of 53 and compared it to the 2-d version on hdmi 2 and matched as best I could.

Numerous other blurays are desaturated as well, 300: rise of an empire, G.I. Joe retaliation, etc. Ideally the transfers or 2-d and 3-d should be identical aside from the MVC encoding. There shouldn't be a shift in color saturation, black levels etc.

Just saw Oz: The Great and Powerful on Blu. Truly gorgeous print; the colors were amazing, and even though the special effects/backgrounds were obvious in many cases - it all seemed intentional & appropriate for the film. The colors were especially impressive during the landscape scenes - very lush & vibrant.

Also liked the homage to the original film, by having the beginning sequence in Kansas b&w (and only taking up a portion of the screen) which later converted to color & widescreen for the later Oz sequences.

As a fan of the original L. Frank Baum Oz series of novels ever since I was a kid, I liked how this movie incorporated elements from the original books, while still being an original story - i.e., the origin of how the charlatan/scammer Oz came to the land of Oz (LOL), the village of living china/porcelain little figurines (there was an extensive scene involving the china village in the original WOZ novel), the flying monkeys, the wicked witches, etc.

I've always liked the Oz spin-off films (this film, Tin Man (inspired by the original), Return to Oz) much better than the original WOZ film. Sure, that's a classic - but was lacking in many respects. Not only are the effects outdated these days, but I never liked the fact that the whole Oz sequence was a dream that Dorothy had (as revealed at the end). Conversely, in the original novel the whole Oz sequence was not a dream, but was something that actually happened. I always thought the dream "explanation" in the film was a cop-out.
