USA Wizard Of Oz question

Does anybody know of any films on Margeret Hamilton? besides this film that she is in? Would love to see more of her acting! She was really good in this as Witch of the West. any on blu of hers? or any of the other actors, Lahr? Bolger...babes in toyland I heard he was in which I think is on blu. Haley? Billie Burke? Garland I know was in Meet Me In St Louis which is on blu and definetly on the hunt for that. Just curious if anybody can recommend anything of these actors, blu or dvd

The only other movie I know of off-hand with Hamilton is the original 13 Ghosts from 1960 by William Castle. She plays the housekeeper and there are a few joking references to her role as the Wicked Witch.

Frank Morgan (the Wizard) is also in The Shop Around the Corner with Jimmy Stewart.

Neither are on Blu-ray, unfortunately. Just DVD.

Billie Burke was in a lot of films. My favorite is Dinner at Eight. Topper was also a hit. Both are available on DVD and show up from time to time on TCM.

This is down to $14.99 as of today. It's apparently the best transfer, so I may consider biting.

Yes, besides the 3d being strong for such an old movie, if you watch the 3d disc on your 3d blu player, and turn off the 3d, its not the same transfer from the 2009 disc, its brand new.

I was definitely planning on converting it to 2D...it's just not my favorite film to be honest. I am a fan of film preservation tho, and I am a fan of Oz...

Not sure what you mean by converting it, since the 2d option is already there.

Oh, I misread your post. I didn't know 2D was an option. I just sometimes convert 3D to 2D when I know the transfer is better and I don't care to watch in 3D.

The 3D turned off is the better option. The encoding frame glitch is not present in the Munchkinland scene. The regular version has the glitch, where the frame stops and jumps.

It's a reissue of the single disc Blu-Ray with movie cash enclosed.

Even so...I implore you...if you have 3D, at least check it out.

It's simply gorgeous in 3D and the effect is amazing, perhaps some of the best 3D I have ever seen. Even the B&W scenes pop (when you see Dorothy doing her walk on top of the fence, you'll be hooked).

The reason it translated so well is because it's a film made before we felt there needed to be cuts every 2.3 seconds. It actually gives you time to enjoy the extra dimensionality, to really absorb the effect.

I'm no 3D person, but I tell you - it's jaw dropping how well the film translates.
If you have to whip out a microscope to decide if you like a Blu-ray or not, you are missing the point.

There are no B&W scenes. It's called Sepia, which is a reddish-brown color. Sepia bookends the film; the Kansas scenes.
The best number is 73. Why? 73 is the 21st prime number. Its mirror, 37, is the 12th and its mirror, 21, is the product of multiplying 7 and 3... and in binary 73 is a palindrome, 1001001, which backwards is 1001001.
What is real? How do you define 'real'? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

Well said. I'd compare the 3D to House of Wax with Vincent Price. Of course HoW was shot in 3D with intentional pop out effects, but for being shot without 3D in mind for Oz, it does have a few. The Wicked Witch's argument with Glinda comes to mind.

However, I did feel like there was no 'middle ground'. It's kinda hard to explain. I call it that because it looks like there's either something extremely close to you, or extremely far away, which limits what I pay attention to behind the foreground. If that makes any sense.

This is one of the many side effects of a conversion.
