These are just EMI/RFI shields that one places around the power cord and video and audio connection cables. They are ideal for component video and any form of analog video/analog audio cables, however in a digital world with HDMI they are hardly used since the EMI/RFI interference would need to be extreme to change the digital bitstream. You would notice major digital artifacts if the EMI/RFI interference was causing a problem with HDMI. They are never needed on optical audio cables since fiber is 100% immune to EMI/RFI interference.

Mine usually go in the trash. The joys of the digital age.
Toshiba 40-inch 1080p TV; Sony BDP-S590, Panasonic DMP-BDT220 (back-up); Samsung HT-D330 (5.1 surround, DVD HT w/ region-free capability); Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 250gb w/ Kinect
This is true joy in life, the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourelf as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. - George Bernard Shaw |

At first I thought he was asking about the old magnets that come with CRTS to align the picture.
"I wanted Uhura to kick ass. I don't care if I'm kicking or punching something or someone, I just wanted her to sort of be a little more physical."
