Onkyo's website states that the 505 has 7.1 analog inputs. To the OP check the back of your receiver to see it could be written DVD in or so. You'll have all the channels written on 8 rca inputs. If not, you're out of luck, but it seems if Onkyo states it, it should be there

yeah, the section for the analogs is titled DVD and each channel has the specific channel spelled out....does this mean the receiver will not do any conditioning causing loss before it outputs to the speakers?

^^
With that AVR, you can get lossless multichannel audio decoded and processed by the player.

But, be advised that using analog turns your receiver into an amp. You won't be able to use any of its processing capabilities, including Audyssey room correction. For most people, the analog set-up is a big pain and they discover that lossless doesn't sound any better than the high bitrate lossy tracks on Blu-ray.

Thanks Pentatonic, Remo and BIslander....instead of spending a load on 4 sets of RCA golds it may end up being eaiser/better quality to just get a good receiver with HD codecs?

Yep. These days, it's hard to find a receiver without HDMI and HD audio decoders. But, beyond lossless audio, a modern processor will give you considerably better room correction and other processing tools that will likely make a bigger difference than TrueHD and dts-MA decoders.

I wasn't a fan of using the audyssey on the current receiver I have. I guess the price ot the Panasonic combined with the cost of the RCA's would be the same as a servicable new receiver. I would then just keep using the PS3 slim and ditch the Toslink and use the HDMI for both video/audio. So in your experienced opinion with the setup I currently have and proposed, you think it would be cheaper and better quality with a new Denon or Onkyo?

Audyssey 2EQ on the Onkyo SR505 is the bottom end implementation. You'll find much better versions nowadays. Plus other improved processing features. So, yes, I'd recommend going that route. (btw, I still use analog on an AVR I bought in 2005 right before HDMI took off. But, I'd make the switch if I were in the market for a new processor.)

I see a Pioneer Elite - Elite 560W 7.1-Ch. 3D Pass-Through A/V Home Theater Receiver for probably less than buying the Panasonic player and RCA cables. That would probably satisfy?

After another look yep it does have 7.1 analog input, my mistake. Was looking at onkyos site from a phone, got on computer after seeing your post. I apologize for my lack of attention to details as all I did was skim the specs and look at rear picture. Small screen on a phone.
