Naw I will go with 1991. That was the worst year for horror period! No I dont think Silence of the Lambs is a horror film. Even if u want to consider it horror that year still sucked big time. Got Em!!
Top "9" Blu-Ray Wishlist - A Bronx Tale (1993) - Can't Buy Me Love (1987) - The Five Heartbeats (1991) - The Temptations (1998) - Cooley High (1975) - Friday the 13th (Parts IV-X) - Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) - Phantasm (Franchise) - Accepted (2006)

I know I already mentioned it, but you should all check out The Pact. A very underrated film from this year.
Also, I don't think Sinister and Woman in Black were half bad. But Cabin in the Woods was one of the best in many years, so I think it makes up for a pretty bad year in horror. |

I'll name V/H/S as my favorite horror film of 2012.
I think that Cabin in the Woods was a fun, witty, and visually-spectacular flick, and it demands repeat viewing more than V/H/S, but Cabin in the Woods did not scare me or unsettle me at all. V/H/S packed a bit of a punch, though. I agree with Harry on Ain't It Cool News when he described V/H/S as "ugly horror", because that's what it is. I saw this movie at an indie theater here in Atlanta during October and a couple of the stories got under my skin. It's the sort of film that I thoroughly enjoyed during my first viewing, but have no real desire to see again anytime soon. As a pure horror film with the intention to horrify, this one did its job. |

For better or worse, The Pact was by far the best horror flick I've seen so far this year. The Possession and Sinister still haven't made it my way, but unless one of those is a big surprise the only other even halfway decent horror flick of the year so far is The Woman in Black. I'm hoping that there were some other decent offerings from around the world that simply haven't gotten distribution or word of mouth yet because only one good horror movie in a year is really sad.

I love horror movies and really never gave it much thought. But this thread is absolutely correct. Looking over my collection the only Blu-ray I picked up this year that could be catergorized as true horror was CABIN IN THE WOODS. I also bought PROMETHEUS 3D and INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956) which are sci-fi horror and may qualify just to add a couple more titles to the list. Since I try to rent before I buy, all others I watched were barely worth the rental.

2012 had been lackluster at best.... I'm hoping next year will be better. There's some potential...
"Don't be stupid, this is way more entertaining than Hollywood's ever gonna be!" - Revy, Black Lagoon
"I'd buy that for a dollar!" - TV Show Host, Robocop What really happened to Farscape! |
