I'm just glad Universal didn't filter it like they did with a lot of their other HD-DVD ports.
Yep (again). I believe the first movie got an actual film finish while the others were on DI which explains why they look so much sharper right off the bat, but it could've been a horror show on Blu and yet Universal left it well alone. It's not spectacular but it's not some EE/DNR laden piece of shit.

**** it, I'm gonna have a quick look now...

...and all things considered, it looks pretty darned nice to my eyes! There's a trace of some ringing but it's not the type of hard haloing that usually gets my goat, and there's a pleasing feel of texture and detail to it which is HIGHLY unusual for such an early Universal disc (and an HD DVD port at that, which normally got "extra treatment" for Blu). The little blips and marks on the source (probably an IP) add to that more organic feel.

Basically I don't see what the problem is, it's easily one of the most unmolested and natural-looking efforts from Universal's early back catalogue. Like I said, it ain't gonna be most people's idea of eye candy but it's a solid piece of work.

Well it's a strange day when you are more picky than Geoff. In my defense though I wasn't saying it was unwatchable, just that it looks much worse than the sequels. Also I wasn't around in the early days of BD releases, so the whole "better than their other early releases" thing has no meaning for me. I'm just saying now, watching it with the sequels, it looks a lot worse (IMO).

I got Universal's The Great Outdoors recently though and it literally looks like a DVD, so everything is relative.

I watched The Bourne Ultimatum tonight for the first time in a while.

"If you were in your office, we'd be having this conversation face to face."

That was a mistake Jason.

You got cocky.

...and you paid for it.
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.
Dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix.
Angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.
