Maybe it's my TV then?
I put in a calibration disc but I just can't make the movie look right. |

Take a look at the close-ups with Sarah Gadon. To me these look exactly as you described the film - "liquid glaze"
Also, the finale definitely looks soft(er) - Paul Giamatti's episode. p.s. And one other thing. Maybe your theater wasn't showing the film right. I did not see it theatrically so your opinion definitely has more weight, but I think that projected the film looks spectacular. I think that at the moment the Arri Alexa camera is definitely more impressive than the Red One camera and some of the film's we have seen shot with it.

Well I guess I was the only person left in the theatre at the end of that ROBERT BREER marathon I attended.
Enchanting. |

Having just watched it, Ill take back what I said!
![]() Not a snoozefest for me but the last half-hour dragged and I couldnt wait for it to end. I neither love it or hate it but I certainly wont be buying it and its not the film I hoped it would be. Shame. |

It could certainly have lost 10-20 minutes and may have been better made as a short or intercut with another narrative. It is worth seeing and I found it a lot better than A Dangerous Method but it does help if you've read Don Delillo's book, though the book's problem is that it was written five years too early. Its a pity Cronenberg's sequel to Eastern Promises ran out of money but Maps To The Stars should be interesting. Its time a studio let Cronenberg have a go at William Gibson's Blue Ant trilogy, he's the only director who could do justice to the Ugly T-Shirt.

For those who wish to import the US disc for the addition of the audio commentary with David Cronenberg, I can now confirm that disc is Region Free.
The US disc still has the Citizens of Cosmopolis documentary and the cast and crew interviews in 1080p23.976, and also includes a US theatrical trailer for the film.
