People who felt that way about Kick-Ass liked the movie for all the wrong reasons. It's like saying Star Wars was an awesome film because of its ground breaking special FX, or saying Die Hard was a great film because of the R-rated langauge & violence.

I personally consider Kick-Ass to be among the finest comic book films ever made. It was certainly one of the most positive and optimistic superhero films since the Richard Donner Superman movies. Kick-Ass didn't pander to the predictable cynicism of moviegoers like the Christopher Nolan Batman films did. It didn't have the too-cool-for-school smugness of The Avengers or Iron Man.

Kick-Ass was very subversive, but not for reasons people expected. For a supposedly "satirical" film, it was actually an unabashedly optimistic movie with a lot of heart. Films like that are very hard to make, and as evidenced by its sequel... very hard to replicate.

Success as in getting butts in seats, not success as in "this movie was great because...".

I enjoyed the first one in parts. Hit Girl and Big Daddy being the highlights, Kickass being the low parts. Red Mist was in the middle.

This one had a different feel. The mean girls, just felt tired. Jim Carrey was wasted. The fights were boring and poorly directed compared to the first.

I saw this in a theater with probably 20 people tops. The loudest being a mom with 4 10 year old boys which she constantly had to keep telling to be quiet and eventually separate. The biggest laugh came from this group and it was during the sick stick scene. That pretty much shows the demo this movie was aimed at IMO. A hardcore R movie, geared towards 10 year olds. Just didn't care for it.

2.5/5

It would have been a great scene if it actually looked realistic.

Every movie doesn't need, nor require a sequel, which is the case for Kick-Ass! The original movie was just perfect for a stand alone film, within it's own merit. Sometimes sequels tarnish the original movie. Sequels has automatically become a normality in Hollywood films, regardless of their box office success or failure. If it's not broke, don't fix it! leave it alone.

The fact that Universal limited the budget to this film causing the Times Square finale from the books to be changed to a warehouse is sickening.

Statement from Universal

Quote:
"We were disappointed we didn't match the opening of the first movie," said Nikki Rocco, Universal president of distribution. "The good thing is that it represented very minimal risk for the studio, and the first film did very well in ancillary markets, so we'll see where this goes domestically and internationally."

The first Kick-Ass sets the stage for a sequel.
The final scene is Chris wearing a modified Red Mist costumes all but vowing vengeance for his dad and saying "....wait til they get a load of me"
I am very very happy we got a sequel. A very good sequel even. I hope
[Show spoiler] hit-girl and kick-ass end up together in a third film and I hope to see more of the Justice Forever team. Especially Night *****

I've never seen a sequel that made me like the original film less.

I was quite surprised myself to see an "8pm on Saturday night of opening weekend" theatre at only about 65% - 70% capacity. That's a prime slot for insanely heavy traffic.

Agreed on
[Show spoiler]Hit Girl and Kick Ass getting together. I am glad, even if this is it, that we at least know she cares about/loves him. She would have protected him, but he was screaming for Mindy when the villains were dragging him away at the funeral. He saw her get hurt and he also knew she was the one who could save his life. That scene right there set up what could be a badass crime fighting duo. One of my favorite parts of the film was the possible blossoming of love between these two.

Oh and for those complaining that the girlfriend was
[Show spoiler]made a cameo, in the comic she ditches him in the first Kick Ass.

Just about every movie is made with a sequel already anticipated, after the first film is completed. Sequels are to be expected nowadays. It's typical. I would be surprise, if a movie didn't have a sequel!

Going to see this at the 9:45 showing so leaving in a bit just in case there's a line at the box office or the concession stand.
RIP Navster, you were someone I considered a friend and BD.com will always remember you.

Anyone else find it unsettling what Todd did, how none of the heroes know about it, and how he showed no remorse for it? That's one deviation from the comic book that was for the worse.
