Wow they gotta include Pink's rendition of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" in the 80th Anniversary Edition. She sang the hell out of that song.

Default Big Box = Mess

I think they need to rethink the box. If you don't remember exactly how to put the stuff back in then you have your "big box swag" all over the place. To me it was a nightmare putting all that crap back together in the box.

The 1939 Wizard of Oz 2-D version has always been rated G. What is very interesting is that when the 3-D version of the classic Wizard of Oz movie was created from the 8K scan of the original film negative, the Motion Picture Association of America gave the 3-D version of the Wizard of Oz a PG rating before it was released in theaters. Movies like The Wizard of Oz that once had a G rating get a PG rating in modern times. Also older movies with a R rating sometimes will get a PG-13 rating under the modern MPAA rules.

I wonder if Warner will every release the 1939 Gone With the Wind in theaters in 3-D (The Wizard of Oz is much more popular, so maybe no 3-D version of Gone with the Wind)? Perhaps the modern MPAA rules would give a PG rating to Gone With the Wind instead of a G rating if it was resubmitted to the MPAA for a review.

I'm so confused with the various editions of this film.
Can anyone tell me which 75th anniversary release (from any country) includes only discs 2 and 3 from this 5 disc set?
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Wi.../72225/#Review

I'm interested only in the film in 2d + the BLuray disc with the bonus.
I'm not interested in the 3D bluray and the 2 DVDs.

edit:
Maybe this is the version to get?
Includes 3 discs.
3d + 2d + bonus bluray (??)

I just can't understand that. I took all the stuff out of the box and it all went back in as easy as it came out.

This is a 2 Disc release and it includes the 3D one.
So, it's 3D disc + 2D disc and doesn't include the bonus Bluray disc.

The Target exclusive being referred to is a 5 disc set with the same discs as the UCE.

Not necessarily. It could be that you want the discs, but not the huge box and swag that goes with it, thus even if the Target edition was more, it would be worth it. That would be my preference anyway. The 5-disc Target edition was under $30 I believe.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't just get the older Emerald edition though. It has just as much content as the new set, and has an old documentary not included in the new one. It's also much cheaper now.

It's logical that I would like the new edition.
After all, I think there were some errors in the audio that were corrected in the 75th edition.

I think moviebuff75 will explain momentarily that they weren't, if I recall correctly...

Hmmm...
I'm pretty sure that I had read here that something is different in this newer edition.
I remember reading that the video is the same with the Emerald edition, but the audio is not.

The 3D version corrects video errors with the 2D versions (no more frame glitches, scratches, etc.) The audio is the exact same, altered 1998 track.

This is what I did after much examination. The only thing missing bonus content-wise is the new documentary on the 75th anniversary release. If the price of the 75th anniversary single disc drops back down to $7.99 this next Christmas, I may buy this as well.

EDIT: I believe you lose the old documentary on the 75th anniversary edition, replaced by the new doc.

Exactly. You lose the old doc and gain a new one.And the 3D version uses a different, newer master with a few fixed issues.

When I was at Target looking at the Blu-ray section, this old man past by me and said don't waste your time with Blu-ray, VHS is still perfectly fine.

So I looked at him and said, yeah, and Theodore Roosevelt is still president. He laughed and walked away.
