Finally saw it. It was one of the few slashers where I did not want the characters to die. They were likable. It was a fun movie.

Thanks. Finally bit on The Burning and Nightmare City. That one stung a little price wise but I don't think it's ever coming down.

NIGHTMARE CITY gets bad reviews. You might want to return it and wait until Arrow releases theirs.

Me too, but it's never under $10. I don't really blind buy much, but I need to fulfill the urge on this one.

I watched this Scream Factory Blu-ray of The Burning last night, and I am hugely impressed.

I mean, this is no Casablanca or Gone with the Wind, but it's quite wonderful for what it is. In fact, I'm inclined to say that The Burning is the best of the early 1980s campground-woods-killer movies. The movie does a surprisingly competent job of making us care about the characters, the actors all pull their weight, and the motivations of the killer are somewhat understandable. This movie delivers instead of teasing in all respects, because it's more visceral than other films of the era without edging into parody, and because Carrick Glenn should have won the Academy Award for best achievement in toplessness.

It goes without saying that I loved seeing some early work by a handful of accomplished actors. Ned Eisenberg (Eddy) is an actor whom I will always associate with his multiple appearances in the TV series, Miami Vice. Brian Backer would follow up this film with another iconic appearance in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Larry Joshua (Glazer) is another actor whom I recognized from a Miami Vice episode. Of course, we are all familiar with Jason Alexander and Holly Hunter.

I still need to go through the extras on this disc, and will probably do so after work. It's a great Scream Factory release, though!

Yes, it's one of their best discs imho. As for the film, dare I say that it's better than FRIDAY THE 13TH? Anyways, I enjoy both but THE BURNING delivers more in the gore department while FRIDAY delivers in the creepy department.

I blind bought my copy and I enjoyed it, good slasher movie with some good Tom Savini effects and the scariest sight of all, Jason Alexander with a full head of hair
The Ghostbusters earned their Stripes and to relax decided to go play golf, but got locked in the Caddyshack by the Gopher with The Blues Brothers who are hiding from a Dragnet but luckily they all escaped to The Great Outdoors, where they met a ranger who turned out to be The Man Who Knew Too Little because everything he said was Lost In Translation.

Highest recommendation for whoever doesn't have this yet. It scored it for about 16 shipped from a deepdiscount sale. One of the best blu's I own.

I saw The Burning last night for the first time ever and was pleasantly surprised.* It was a really fun little camp slasher, and of the 3 that I've seen (Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp, The Burning), this might be the best.* Although Sleepaway takes the cake as far as endings go.* I did like the characters though, and the women are definitely cream of the crop.* Also, the kills scenes are definitely primo Savini.

I can't believe Holly Hunter did not have a single line (that I can remember) in this.* And it's interesting that this was written before Friday the 13th.* I'm surprised they never did a sequel.

Scream Factory did a great job on the disc as well, especially packaging-wise.* Love the slip cover.* I just wish there was a better retrospective doc with all the actors, but I'm not complaining.

Cool to hear you enjoyed it. I think Holly had a couple works you can hear in the background, but no real lines though.

PS: 2 other slashers worth getting are, The Prowler and My Blood Valentine.

The Burning is my favorite 80's slasher film. It's really astonishing how much popularity F13th has despite "The Burning" being an immensely better movie, at least that's my opinion. The Burning is the best "summer camp" slasher. Sleep Away Camp is a close second.
