USA Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi Horror Classics Collection (RE-RELEASE)

Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi Horror Classics Collection on February 6, 2018

We had to wait 12 years for this re-release

Murders in the Rue Morgue isn't included as there's no Karloff in it. Now you may discard the crappy double-sided DVD from the Bela Lugosi Collection.

Why aren't they releasing them on Blu-ray?
"I remember fondly the first DVD I bought - The Adventures of Indiana Jones: The Complete DVD Movie Collection. Very excited to find how much attention was given to the contents and packaging. The DVD days are gone now but those were the beginning of my becoming a movie collector." (DVD Aficionado, 2017)

Has anybody seen or reviewed this new DVD (to be released today) ?

And, yes, I do want to see these restored and on Blu-ray.

Someone left an Amazon review on this new set, here's what they put:

This is only a very slight improvement over the readily available "Bela Lugosi Franchise Collection" which features the same films - the only change being the use of single sided, rather than defect laden, double sided dvds. There is no remastering, no cleanup of the grainy film, no feature commentaries, no "Karloff vs Lugosi" background documentary, no archive photographs, no nothing. Well.. there are subtitles.

IMO these films should have been given the deluxe treatment as an edition of the Universal Complete Legacy Collections. I know these aren't technically "Universal Monster Movies" but they would most certainly be more compatible to that series than the incongruous color version of "Phantom of the Opera" Universal always insists on throwing in.

This is a half hearted, disappointing and almost pointless exercise. Where is Tom Weaver, Greg Mank and David J. Skal when you need them? At least the set is cheap price-wise - although I would have been happy to pay more to get more.

Tldr: No quality improvement. Changed from a single double sided disc to two single sided discs. Now includes English subtitles.
