You might be looking too deep into when and where noises/doors appeared before the climax.
The fact that we see the door and hear noises are just to demonstrate that the apartment isn't as private as it could be so when Rosemary finds her way next door at the end we believe it - I think you may have missed that so therefore you're more surprised by the doors existence and potantially disbelieve that Rosemary's experience at the end is real.

Just my opinion

Maybe so. I haven't come to a conclusion either way, I just think it's interesting to speculate until I have the opportunity to sit down and watch it again.

Interpreting films (or any media) in different ways is certainly fine and it's also what makes great art, but I really think you're looking for something that's not there. I don't think the ending is ambiguous at all - in fact, I think it was all incredibly obvious.

I think the only thing that could really be questioned is whether Rosemary's husband would have made the deal.

Now if one wanted to reinterpret the film as being a metaphor about a creator's loss of control when they "sell their soul" to a large corporation and how they, in essence, lose the rights to their work, I'd buy that. But as Freud once said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."
loose="not tight", lose="can't find it, doesn't have anymore" or the opposite of "win".
their="belongs to", there="place", they're="they are", there's = "there is"
it's="it is", for everything else use "its"
then="after", than="compared with"
"a lot" not "alot"

I realize that the idea of it not being straightforward is an unpopular theory, and I myself am not sure of the idea, I was just presenting it to see what others thought.

Well, if the ending is indeed straightforward,
[Show spoiler]he certainly made the deal.

[Show spoiler]The door in the closet isn't a secret door in a any concealed sliding panel sense, it's just a plain old door that's now the back wall of a closet. We get hints early that there's a door there. The manager tells them the apartment used to be part of the Castavets' apartment. Rosemary sees a scrap of paper with the words 'I can no longer be associated...'. The 900 year old Mrs Gardenia dragged a bureau or secretary or whatever old people call their dressers in front of that closet. We get glimpses of the closet when the drugged Rosemary is transported to the site of the ritual.

That's definitely my biggest suspension of disbelief hurdle. It's by no means insurmountable but it's not exactly a minor detail either.

[Show spoiler]Which is one of the reasons I think all concerned really dodged a huge bullet when negotiations broke down with Robert Redford. The blonde-haired, blue-eyed all-American boy renting his wife's womb to the satanic cult next door could have been a more shocking turnaround but it would have been a much tougher sell too.

John Cassavettes made Guy just dark enough and just sleazy enough to make that leap possible. Could Robert Redford have pulled it off too? Maybe but I dunno...

Just watched this on Netflix the other night and let me tell you...I bought it as soon as the movie was over. Should be here before Christmas. It's probably the most creepy movie I've seen.

A new NBC miniseries based on Rosemary's Baby starring Zoe Saldana will debut this summer - the show will be set in Paris, France.

Do you really have to pollute the Criterion Polanski Rosemary's Baby blu ray thread with news of the tv series starring some mediocre actress?

I don't know a Polanski fan who'd find this news interesting. More importantly, there's a sub-forum for TV shows : http://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=121

I think that's a severe over-reaction, even though the TV show probably will be crap. And Zoe Saldana is a decent enough actress. Was Mia Farrow so spectacular in the role? It was her pixie-ish physical look rather than her acting ability that made it work.

I'm of a different opinion, also I'm not over reacting by suggesting that the better place for this news is in the tv sub forum.

If people are plugging Martyrs and other unrelated content, then I think we can handle the casual mention of a remake of the topic film without shaking our pitchforks.

pollute lol. You're taking this a bit too seriously there. I don't see anything wrong with bringing up another adaptation here. It's not like the thread is going to solely discuss the TV show now. Your post actually derails the thread more than the person that brought up the TV adaptation, go figure.

Me too, to be honest, and I rarely visit the TV section so I'd have not even known.
