All of the Miramax EBHE releases are now out of print and the rights for these titles are now with Lionsgate.

Was checking to see if I could find an affordable copy of Fortress earlier, and realized it takes place in 2017. Naturally, I had to bump the thread for that reason!

Wow... This once had a blu ray release? That's surprising... I mean, I like the film, but not many Christopher Lambert blu rays are going to be out there. This is the kind of film that Shout Select should be releasing.

Maybe Arrow, they have ties with Miramax (Cinema Paradiso, Hellraiser III).

Nameless Media in Germany are supposed to put out a BD of Fortress. They have reached out to laserdisc collectors for the unrated UK LD for the otherwise cut footage for possible inclusion on their BD.

Let's hope they hunt down the 35 mm original negative instead and make a brand new amazing 2K transfer from that

Look at that german platinum cult label, they hunt down 35mm of many smaller b-classics so it should be possible. Or was it never unrated in cinema either? Then do like Punisher, inserts.

The less said about Krekel the better.

As far as I know the UK LD (and UK VHS) was the only existing release of the longest cut of the film. Nameless are likely only going to upscale and insert the missing bits into the film. The rest of it will most likely be taken from the master that Echo Bridge got so given how that one looks I'd be surprised if the quality drop from master to inserts would be all that jarring.

I doubt I'd go for an über-expensive BD+DVD mediabook but if Nameless put out a cheaper BD-only release in a regular case then I might bite (after the usual Caps-a-holic double check).

And I am sure that cut footage sourced from a LD will look great .

I love 90's post-apocalyptic movies. Fortress, A.P.E.X., Neon City, Philadelphia Experiment 2, and many others were a lot of fun. Sadly, I don't expect many of them to be properly dusted off and prepared for Blu-ray release. It's as overlooked as any genre will ever be

Saw on their facebook they are going all out with a big box, longest uncut version, alternate ending and much more even a statue and german dubbing. Unsure if the will use english lossless and subs but I hope.

I'll likely grab this - hopefully there's a statue-less edition as I have no interest in this sort of thing. Nobody else seems interested in going the extra mile like the Germans so I gotta grab what's available, just like I did when I preordered the upcoming Xtro BD from Cult Platinum. I'll have to brace myself for the extreme DNR scrubbing

Which was my point, even if the extra bits are sourced from the LD and given the quality of the master for the rest of the footage the drop in quality will be almost insignificant.

Any reason why they can't use the actual 35mm film that the old LD was mastered from for these missing bits? Has it been confirmed that complete film elements no longer exist for FORTRESS? That would indeed be a shame.

This sounds like a prime candidate for an Arrow rescue. Maybe they would be able to strong-arm a proper new transfer out of Miramax, and hopefully track down elements for all the missing/censored scenes. I haven't actually seen this since the theatre in 1992, and I'd love to revisit it, uncut this time. I remember liking it well enough, although Jeffrey Combs needed more screen time (doesn't he always?).

The German Blu Ray is out now.

As expected it uses the same source Material as the Echo Bridge Blu ray.
But they worked on the Color for the german disc. They tried to get rid of the red push that echo bridge has.
And the encoding is also better.

Little Comparison between the US and German Blu Ray:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/214846

As you can see: Sharper, better Colors, better Encoding.
Yes a new HD Scan would have been better but for this movie?
Financial Suicide

The Unrated Footage is upscaled but the Quality is acceptable for the only short inserts.
Here are 2 Screenshots (click on it to make them big):

Im ok with the disc and its the better overall package than the Echo Bridge Blu Ray.
