Quartet Records in Spain has released a 3 CD-set with the complete music. There's 180 minutes of music, most of it previously unreleased or unused in the film.

And the colors are heavily oversaturated in many scenes...looks great (better than the DVD) once you adjust the settings on your TV, but yeah, you have to be willing to do that in order to achieve the best presentation.

makes me wonder how much Coke and McD's gave the Salkinds for the budget of the film (it film cost 50 million bones back in mids 80s), I mean you see a major McDonalds scence with many food items being eaten, and Coke products are clearly seen in two scenes in the film

The Salkinds always financed their movies with product placements as a major source. Watch any of their movies and the product placements stick out like a sore thumb.

I have been listening to it every day since I got it. The score is even better than the film!

There are several different product placements in Donner's Superman films. Superman II has the giant Coke sign in Times Square getting smashed, when Non throws Superman into it. There are also placements for Marlboro cigarettes, which would never happen in today's world for a movie aimed at children.

Wasn't Santa Claus' suit originally green until a certain soft drink giant decided red looked better?
Product placement in this movie may be justified.

Yeah I thought both of those two examples were ridiculously blatant advertising. Gotta love the Coke sign scene though.

I never saw this film, though I've read some reviews. I might give this one a rental first if possible.

Let's not forget the scene in the first Superman where it is early morning and Ma Kent lovingly places a box of Cheerios on a table lit in the fashion of a Vermeer painting.

Pulled out my DVD of this recently, I had no idea a Blu Ray was released! I love this movie, its a really good Santa 'Origin' film. I grew up in the 90's and had a TV recording.

I don't know if I'll upgrade, but I will look into it!

Watched this last night... One of my earliest childhood favorites, and it still holds up!

did I get an import?

My copy was bought new/sealed from Columbia House and says Studio Canal/ Lionsgate, and has a US address on the bottom of the artwork (Colorado Ave, Santa Monica, CA).

Took only four years for someone to respond. But yes, my copy (from the Walmart bin) is the same way.

Sure is! I couldn't remember if that was the way it originally was or if they had boosted it. I suspected the latter, especially since their skin is an orange hue in at least one scene (but probably more than one).

All of the criticisms in this thread - '70s TV movie kids, etc. - are valid. But I will disagree with anyone who dislikes John Lithgow's performance. I thought it was delightfully over-the-top and perfect for a movie like this.
I'll be back for more bargain bin Blus!

I am watching it right now. I always watch it on Christmas Eve. It was on AMC HD and it looks great but just a little too bright and over saturated in the reds. First time watching it in HD

I have the DVD(which has 5.1) but never bought the blu ray because it does not have 5.1

I am still waiting for The Night they saved Christmas. Two of my favorite Christmas movies.
My setup

Samsung 65JS8500
Samsung K8500 4K Blu ray player
Onkyo TX-NR757
