Yeah this is a fun film, anything that's riffing on sources like M.R. James and the BBC Ghost Stories for christmas short films, Amicus, Tigon, Lewton/Tourneur, Don't Look Now, Evil Dead and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is well worth checking out imo (and that's probably only half of the shit that's referenced or homaged).

I liked it, genuinely frightening at times [despite resorting to the lazy 'loud musical sting with jump scare' that's common these days], and great performances, but....ummm....I wasn't sure about the final act. Without trying to say too much for those who haven't seen it, it made the preceeding scary stuff rather pointless and this device has been done so many times before.

I guess 7/10, possibly 7.5/10 as I really did like the first three quarters...

I thought this was really really bad.

Slow moving not due to choice, but because of poor writing. No tension. No atmosphere. Just lots of loud noises and jump scares. Cheap.

Laughed out loud a few times during this. This movie features the worst scene of 2018 for me. Ending goes off the rails. Like the way the story comes around and is revealed, but just...I donno.

Probably 3/10.

We are all entitled to our opinion, but I couldn't disagree with you more. No scares and cheap endings to each story and an even worse ultimate ending. Not saying it's a bad movie. Its well done for the most part, but overall the stories were bland.

^- What can I say, I appreciate superior Horror offerings. Beats the living hell out of brain-dead, horror-for-kids stuff like the HIGHLY overrated "A Quiet Place"...

Superb movie, my favourite of the year so far.
"Still in all, every night we does the tell, so that we 'member who we was and where we came from... but most of all we 'members the man that finded us, him that came the salvage. And we lights the city, not just for him, but for all of them that are still out there. 'Cause we knows there come a night, when they sees the distant light, and they'll be comin' home."

We rented this last night on VUDU. My wife who is not a horror fan really enjoyed it. Well acted and had some edge of your seat scares at times. Yes, some of the jump scares were "cheap" and the third act was a little bland...but just when I thought it lost it's way, it would redeem itself with a good scare or twist in the story.

I would say it's a solid 7/10. I will definitely buy it on Blu Ray when it's released.
