Well we all know that like the Alien franchise, Warner Brothers couldn't leave Blade Runner alone, so I'm at least grateful that Ridley is behind the wheel of both Prometheus and the Blade Runner sequel. What frightens me the most is Warner Brothers greenlighting a live action remake of Akira set in "New Brooklyn".

Crowe ? ? Does any studio really know how to tell a story any more ? ? ? How so very very rare it is for a sequel to ever even equal, much less surpass the original. I guess I respect the original too much to enjoy a sequel.

This has lots of possibilities; all depends on the script. I could see a HEARTS OF DARKNESS/ APOCALYPSE NOW type story where a new Blade Runner is sent to track down the infamous Deckard, who fled with a replicant. Ford makes a Kurtz-like cameo at the end.
Then again, I can't see it working out. Ford never believed - and doesn't like Scott's idea - that Deckard is a replicant. And I'm on his side with that one - the story has no resonance if Deckard's not human. The whole subtext is about the contrast between Deckard's "real" humanity and Batty's false humanity - "More human than human". Deckard re-discovers his own humanity by the end - no longer a "cold fish". |

Dr. Ian Malcolm: Anybody hear that? It's a, um... It's an impact tremor, that's what it is... I'm fairly alarmed here.

The new Blade Runner is going to be a rom-com. Over the decades, Deckard researches and discovers how to extend the termination dates of replicants. After 30 years of extending the "expiration date" on his replicant wife Rachael, hilarity ensues as Rachael decides to join the replicant rights movement and falls in love with a younger replicant (since she's never changed physically and Deckard of course has). Meanwhile, Deckard has spent so much time in the dark and rain that he's "out of it" and walks around town staring at other people's eyes and asking them stupid questions like "who won the Superbowl in 2317?" and "where can I find more great scientists and engineers who spend their days and nights serving noodles?"
As it turns out, Tyrell survived the elevator incident in the first film and he's now a mogul who is the largest stockholder of Eldron World, an amusement park filled with life-like toys where humans and replicants have fun together. In a tribute to "Three's Company", Rachael brings her younger replicant boyfriend home and Deckard must decide whether to do the right thing: will he extend the expiration date on Rachael's new love so she can be happy or will he let the both of them die? Deckard will be played by Steve Martin, Rachael by Jennifer Aniston and Rachael's replicant boyfriend by Jonah Hill.
