You must be a salesman. Because the grand he saves buying a 2012 TV that looks to most the same as the 2013 model is smart, especially in this economy. The reason they come out every year with a new model and TVs now last only 5-7 years is to sell TVs, not quantum leaps in PQ.

Not necessarily. I see the ST60 going for $1,700 (online, authorized seller). I don't know if I ever saw the ST50 for anything less than about $1,600 (local retail).

If the difference is $1,000 then you're right but I wager it isn't that much.

Guys I live in CANADA. Tvs here are at least $500-1000 MORE than they are south of the border. Cheapest a 60ST50 was1899 and that was sale many many many months ago. Once I found a 60st50 for 1699 online as it was the last one available BUT it was on the other side of the country and shipping would've been $178 bucks. And before I could say SOLD it was....sold. No more st50s left here and the new st60s, though cheaper than last year, still a bit pricey over here

Cheapest i have seen this. Again shipping would be $180. Still thinking about this....the 2013 Panasonic plasma skipped the entry level 3d plasma...it's either the s60 CHEAP or the ST60 semi affordable

^^^ To clarify, I meant the 60ST50. A buddy of mine bought his at Best Buy in November for something like $1,800+tax, which is less than the 2013 version.

Of course these are US prices. Condolences to my Canadian friends.

Hey we get good sales over here from time to time as well, I picked up a 50"VT20 for $660 at a clearance "auction" that a local dealer enters every year, got it last April. It had an issue out of the box so Panasonic RMA'd it for a brand new 50"GT50.

50"GT50 for $660, that's right, Go Canada!

(I know, it's an aberration!)

By the way I was considering upgrading to the 4311CI for $1,100 refurbished by Denon, you pretty happy with it? My TX-SR805 is awesome but with only 3 HDMI inputs and no 3D it has some deficiencies, regrettably.

Some of those Amazon Warehouse sets that run about $400 off are brand new, shipped but cancelled in route.

Can anyone else comment on this? Is the gamma accessible through the service menu? I'm ready to make the buy on the UT50 then

Have you searched the AVS page for that model?

Yea I went through the settings thread for the UT50. Took me hours on my iPad! Fingers were sore LOL and I found ONE post that talked about it but didn't answer my question completely so...wondered if any UT50 owners here might know. One thing I do know is that the UK models have a gamma setting in the menu....

This from the CNET review of the UT50:
Quote:
the UT50 offers few advanced picture controls, but this probably won't trouble most users -- it's possible to get a perfectly good picture with just Brightness, Contrast, and Color.
And the settings page doesn't indicate any gamma adjustment can be made.

Those guys dont do a calibration with the service menu though. Ive seen some guys on avs post their SM changes with menu changes :S How they both give the same picture boggles me and I read somewhere that the ST60 will include 96hz for 24p which is a HUGE bonus if I consider that model as I was actually aiming for a Samsung 60E6500 because of its 24p 96hz refresh rate

Although its been a couple of weeks since you posted, yes. The TV is defaulted to automatically switch to 3D when detected. I have had some content switch by mistake, streaming low quality public domain type movies.

I played COD for the first time in 3D last night. Played about 3 rounds. It can get a little nauseating after awhile though. After that I rented Dredd 3D from the PSN Store and it looked pretty good, no issue with nausea.
