Blu-ray Samurai

I can see it, but it's doubtful. The early Oscar predictions have pretty much ignored it on the basis that PJ didn't want to direct it in the first place. I'm keeping it out of my own top 10 for now but things can change.

Finally got the chance to catch a matinee showing today and loved it! A refreshingly fun, innocent and delightful visual treat from quirk master Wes Anderson! Enjoyed it from start to finish including the end credits.

It is funny how there is a bit of a divide on that. I am a huge fan of Life Aquatic and Rushmore and consider The Royal Tenenbaums to be Wes' masterpiece. I really liked Moonrise quite a bit and will definitely get it when it comes out. Others consider Moonrise to be the maturation of Wes and think it is his best.

I've never been a huge fan of Wes Anderson until this film. I've always found his style interesting, and while I enjoy quirky characters most of his films never really seemed to get the viewer invested in them, more like examining these odd, dysfunctional people from a distance.
MOONRISE KINGDOM was the first time I could feel close to and empathize with characters, especially the two kids (from beginning to end), but also the adult characters to varying degrees at different times, notably Bruce Willis and Frances McDormand, and to a certain extent Ed Norton and Bill Murray as well. Anderson's trademark artificial style only served to bring us into their world this time instead of pointing out how different it was. Excellent film -- my favorite of the year so far and Anderson's masterpiece, with DARJEELING LIMITED trailing a ways back in second place. |

I don't buy into Wes Anderson much. His humor and mine just don't normally jive. He's always so critically acclaimed and popular on these forums, I always WANT to like his movies, but I never do. The royal tenenbaums was an exception, but even that I didn't love. I'm planning on giving this one a shot when the price is right... Hopefully this will be the one that changes my
Opinion of Anderson, but i have my doubts.

I gave this four stars after seeing it in theaters, but now that I've seen it a couple more times on blu, I would definitely like to change that to a five if I could.
One reason to watch Blu-rays. It's the right thing to do. - Wilford Brimley
