A number of people I know also hated Birdman. I love summer blockbusters and all but I consider myself a film geek/buff. Most of the people I know are more on the casual side and usually I just don't agree with(or at times respect)their opinions. One of the big ones I heard about Birdman, "the acting was terrible".

I heard that and was like...

I loved his joker, but don't think it was Oscar worthy myself.
This argument/idea does not make sense to me at all. The nomination was for the best supporting actor. Heath Ledger completely transformed himself into the Joker, so much so, that I would bet many people wouldn't know who the actor was if it wasn't for the credits. And the makeup had very little to do with him being unrecognizable, as Jack Nicholson's Joker is proof of that.

Jack's two hour make up application does not count now?

Doesn't have to do with the makeup considering everyone knows that Jack was basically playing himself dressed up as the Joker. Heath pretty much went method and disappeared in the role. His mannerisms, voice and everything he altered to become that character. I still love Jack's version but you can tell the entire time that it's him under that makeup. Ledger's version was the first time I felt like I saw the Joker from the comics come to life in a live action film.

You're absolutely right about Jack. He was himself. I think what made Ledger's Joker so memorable is it was difficult for anyone to imagine a different type of Joker at the time. I think Jared Leto's Joker is more like the comics (the recent ones anyway).

Thank you Hellraiserfan for detailing what I was trying to say. Two other instances come to mind, where I have to keep looking up IMDB to find out who the actor was. Gary Oldman in Leon: The Professional and Steve Carell in Foxcatcher. Maybe it's just me, but instances like this should be rewarded.

Wow. Both films are similar in many ways. Very long (both endings drag), polarizing villain, crazy hot Catwomen, amazing soundtracks and very little Batman in both. They certainly have the stamp of their respective director as well and are riddled with flaws, but are still very entertaining.

Dvdmike was comparing it to TDK, not TDKR.
McCrutchy: "So I see the SteelBook nutters are getting their copies, and as always, they talk about everything from "gloss", to "spine" and everything in-between, except what's on the bloody Blu-ray Disc."
aquagroove: "TVs should be flat! Like the world!"

I'm not saying these people secretly like the movie. I am saying they might be a little more eager and forceful with their opinion because it's a popular film/creator. Am I a little more eager to point out I didn't like Avengers compared to saying I didn't like The Happening or something like that? Yeah, probably.

So will the 4K editions receive new transfers? TDK BD is absolutely trash. Also, do you think they can do anything about the stair-stepping effect in the last scene where the camera pans past the cargo containers?

Anyone's guess - the existing transfer was purportedly done at 4K, though not from camera negative.
