It isnt dying at all. Most people who havent adapted yet are ones who didnt deem it worthy to upgrade from HD to 3D which I understand. But it will keep picking up steam.

I think the misunderstood beauty of 3D is that it's only an option. Not every has to like it. Some will not see the point of it. Which is, it's a feature that can be enjoyed when you need it. You never know when the next Avatar is coming out or that one 3D blockbuster that's just a joy to watch in 3D.
And with upcoming 3D titles like this to look forward to, I'm glad I have that option. http://www.startrekmovie.com/ Last edited by BigJayJay; 12-20-2012 at 03:04 PM. |

This is the crux of it. I've never understood why people get bent out of shape when 3D TVs are the "only option" at the store... they didn't complain when manufacturers started including features like zoom, sharpening, noise reduction, hue/saturation adjustment, PIP...

The problem with 3D is that it's still too inconsistant. You get some movies that are jaw dropping like Avatar (watched the other night) and then Transformers 3 (last night). I didn't like the 3D in T3 at all ! Too dim and fuzzy. Then I put Avatar back in the player and was wow'd once again. The crappy ones (and there are too many) is what is turning people off. I was one of these people.

People have to realize that 3D is not meant to donminate and replace 2D, it's not feasable. But what it can do is becoming a fun way to watch a select genre of movies in the theater and then have a similiar experience in your own home.

With anything else, it takes time. 3D has improved. If you watch an older 3D movie, versus a current 3D movie, sometimes you can see the advancement in the technology. We are on the crust of this IMO, it's just getting started. And I'm just glad we have that option to view at home for when there is a 3D movies that comes out, that a studio had the time, money, and experience, that we can view it at home and enjoy it like we did in the theater. There will be another movie that rivals Avatars 3D success. Avatar made to much money at the theaters for it not to. When done right, 3D is a beautiful experience. You look at the potential of 3D and I don't think we have reached the point of "what it can be". Avatar was great, but there is more to be had. Just hold tight, and get your 3D equipment ready. The ride hasn't even started yet. Last edited by BigJayJay; 12-21-2012 at 05:53 PM. |

Article cites lack of product at CES 13. Agree? Disagree? Thoughts? Regrets?

what a rubbish article, surprising the Verge posted that junk. 3D is alive and well, lots of new 3D stuff coming out including classics being converted to 3D (Disney). Only reason it wasn't largely mentioned at CES is because there is no new advancement on the technology yet Obviously the TV makers would promote new tech in TV like OLED, 4k etc.
It's kind of like 1080p. No one goes on about it anymore because it's the standard now. It's only poor 3D conversions that gives it a bad name, that and the fact that everyone hates paying more for 3D at the cinema and for blu-ray 3D. Last edited by cyrax83; 01-08-2013 at 11:52 PM. |

I wasted so much money in all my 3D equipment, thanks a lot. I am being very sarcastic here.
Every few months one of these doom and gloom articles pops up, and its always the same thing. Just because 3D is not mentioned at CES does not mean it is dead. Were there any announcements for lcd screens, I guess that is dead to.

That's not what I got from that article. Apparently, major companies just aren't bragging about 3d anymore. Probably because of the new kid on the block, 4k. 3d is not dead, it just yesterdays news. If it were dead, we wouldn't have a slew of 3d movies coming out this year. Plus the technology of non glasses 3d is around the corner. If I would have heard it on CNN, then I would worry. This verge.com guy is just stating what he got from the ces show.

I don't believe 3D is dead - at least, not yet. Movies theaters have invested millions in expensive 3D equipment and there are still many 3D movies being made -- at least for now. Eventually, those 3D movie theater experiences will work their way onto 3D blu-rays for home viewing.
I believe that when AVATAR 3D was released ONLY as a Panasonic-exclusive, that situation stunted 3D's growth by leaps and bounds. AVATAR should have been made available IMMEDIATELY when 3D TV initially debuted. Moving forward, I also believe that STAR WARS 3D was so overhyped yet was so poorly converted that it flopped like a turd plopping out of JarJar Binks' bink hole. HARRY POTTER in 3D was more bland and flatter than Severus Snape's hairdoo. Some contributing problems: =========================== • Active shutter vs. passive glasses. • Initially, very limited number of 3D titles on disc. • Initially, too many 3D movies bundled excusively with equipment. • Too many poor 2D to 3D conversions. • Weak 3D. • Lack of or limited pop-outs. • Initially, high pricing of 3D blu-ray discs. • Little or no 3D broadcasts. The entire thing was BOTCHED by the very industry that started it all. I don't go to theaters, but I will continue to support 3D by purchasing new releases. If 3D TV goes the way of VHS, Laserdiscs, Compact Discs, HD DVD etc, I'll just enjoy it at home for as long as it's available. 3D viewing without the need for glasses could revitalize the industry. |

What a rubbish article. I almost signed up to post my thoughts then realised that not only would I be wasting my time, but giving in to what I'm sure the author was intending - stir the pot.
