It doesn't appear that this movie is being released in New Zealand at this stage. No mention of this movie on either the JB Hi Fi or Mighty Ape website.

Looks like I will have to import from Australia

Hoping for a comparison with the Italian release soon, hope it doesn't have the same issues with the transfer (machine noise etc..)

This was a blind buy for me. I will sit down to watch it when I get the urge. If there are errors on the Italian disc where people are wanting to know if they have been carried over to the Australian disc, supply me with the time codes, and describe the issues, and I'll have a quick look, provided by doing this it doesn't wreck my viewing of the film when I do decide to sit down and watch it.
Setup:
Panasonic th-p65vt60a tv, Sony str-da5300es avr/pre-amp, Emotiva xpa-2 & xpa-5 amps, Dali Concept: 10 (fronts) 2 (rears x4) & centre speakers, 2x SVS pb13-ultra subwoofers, Oppo bdp-105 Blu-ray player/DAC (multi-region), Onkyo c-s5vl sacd player, Panasonic dmr-bwt835 1tb hdd/Blu-ray recorder, Xbox One s & 360 s, Sony PS4 Pro & PS3 60gb, Cyron lighting & htw1000 controller, Samsung s2 1tb hdd, SurgeX sx1210rli surge protector/power conditioner x3, Logitech Harmony ultimate remote + hub

Why do they keep releasing catalogue titles without the extras that are in the R1 Special Edition DVD? Also, I spent a lot of $$$ specially importing the R1 DVDs, first the barebones R1, then the Special Edition DVD.

I managed to get it for $15 from JB without the use of any sale, voucher or promotional offer

I also own the R1 DVD of The Dead Zone with the extras, it sucks when they don't port them over but I suspect licensing costs might have prevented them from doing so. Will await some more reactions to this Aussie release but looks like I'll be importing this instead of the Italian blu.

I bought it today for $20 with JB's discount and watched it tonight.

The 1080p AVC picture quality is very good. The main problem is edge enhancement. Black levels are inky, too. But otherwise this release has a detailed and colourful transfer. I didn't notice any glitches.

The Dolby HD 5.1 soundtrack is also good...mostly at the front, with music and ambient sounds filling the room and the occasional directional pan to the rears. There is only one soundtrack...English. No subtitles.

The trailer seems to be a new edit, and is preceded by a Lionsgate logo.

I'm happy with this release, which is also the uncensored version, and probably using the Italian video transfer but HD audio. I dare say only a Criterion edition would improve on the transfer...and extras. Running time is 103:43.

Thanks for the update, can you confirm if it looks like the caps below

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...D=2047#auswahl

The only scene that looks really rough on the Italian is the first vision scene in cap #2.

The whole transfer features some pretty obvious machine noise too, hope it's absent on your release.

Cheers

I advanced to that scene and stepped through a number of frames. The grain/mosquito noise is basically the same as on the Italian screenshots. However, this is a night scene with poor lighting, and I would not expect it to look great anyway. From a normal viewing distance at 24 fps, the grain/noise is not distracting and brighter scenes fare much better. If anything, the edge enhancement has just made it more obvious.

I'll add that a quick scan on my Oppo 83 showed that the bitrate reached 40.6mbps in one exterior scene at around 17:00. The graph on the Italian release seems to peak at around 30kbps, with the 58mbps maximum happening at the end of the file.

If you want the best that THE DEAD ZONE will look, wait to see what Criterion does with it. For me this release, with its edge enhancement and limited shadow detail, is good enough...it's certainly on par with SCANNERS and THE BROOD.

Any screen caps for the Aussie release? I don't understood what good posting the specs does as far as the image goes. I know the bitrate and whether it is 1080p or not matters, but otherwise I don't get it. I'm not complaining, just wondering.

It gives you a brief overview of the specs, direct scan from the disc confirms things rather than just someone saying "back of the cover says... "

Screencaps are not a definitive way of checking the quality either, it's better to view it in motion.

There's no release date yet for the U.S. release, but this site lists it as distributed by Warner Bros., so I would expect Warner Bros to be region-free.

I haven't had much luck with screenshots previously but since I last attempted it I've purchased a new PC and BR Drive.
That there is one damn fine coat you're wearing.

4K UHD - The Experts Agree, Occasionally it's a little better!

For Sale: Alfred Hitchcock Boxed Set (AU), Jacques Tati Collection (AU), Warner 50 Film Collection (AU), Hammer Horror Collection (AU), Necromancy (Code Red)

It looks like a very old master, and it could definitely be improved with a 4K scan... But beggars can't be choosers.
