I really hope the transfer is decent! A great film and long overdue for release!

An actress from this movie starred in a movie I recently directed. She was also my directing/acting coach all of last year. I can't wait to own this on Blu

A great film, and looking forward to its Blu-ray release. I have only seen the DVD version here in the UK, so I'll certainly add this to my collection.

Oh man. I'm not impressed with the transfer at all. It looks like an upscale a lot of the time, but the worst thing is this...odd texture that's all over the image. I can't really explain it, I don't think I've never seen it before on a disc, but it's seriously distracting and a MAJOR encoding error. It makes edges look jagged and it takes away any chance for fine detail.

I might get some screenshots if I can. This is actually recall-worthy, it looks horrible.

EDIT: It's aliasing. I was half asleep at the time when I noticed it hence my odd description.

Screenshots. And some zoom-ins to show the issue with the transfer more precisely. They speak for themselves, just look at any edge in particular. And before anybody asks if these shots are compressed, they are not. It looks this bad in motion.

Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Avoid this one.

Butler, out!

I wonder if this has anything to do with the original release date being canned at the last minute back in March and why it was pushed back to this month. Maybe Roadshow were going to redo a new transfer, but in the end they just decided to release this version anyway for cost reasons.

It's not like Roadshow will make a massive amount of money on a BD release considering how small our market is in comparison to the U.S. and U.K markets, the low sales figures it would achieve thanks to the rise of digital streaming and the limited international sales potential of the film.

Sadly the days of huge physical sales are behind us unless it's a big title like Star Wars, and even then those huge physical sales are a fraction of what they were in the 2000-2005 timeline peak. The even stupider thing is the majority of people buy more DVD's than BD's today. People are stupid.

It was pushed back by 3 and a half months, the original release date was the 18th of January.

I got The Dish today. It was cheap at $15.98, even if it had an average transfer it wasn't much to be chucking away...... After watching it tonight, it indeed does have a rubbish transfer, right from the get go the opening titles don't bode well for the rest of the film. I'll also hazard a guess, like others that this is an upscaled transfer, but i'll go one further.

On the back of the case it states that this is a "High Definition Feature Mastered From US Theatrical Edit" I'm thinking that this is an upscaled transfer from an NTSC source which could explain what is going on here.

It's a sad state of affairs when a major local distributor won't create a proper high def transfer from the original source which would only come down to money.

Damn shame, there are sadly not many solid Aussie films as far as my tastes go. I would have recommended this to some people but not with this sad excuse of a release.
Display: Panasonic 65vt60 with a darbee darblet, Benq w7000.
Audio: Benchmark Dac1 ->DNA Sonett -> Sennheiser HD800 (balanced).

Thumbs down Roadshow SUCK

Bought mine yesterday. Luckily I have not opened it, as I will be returning it to JB's. I will keep my dvd instead. It's typical of Roadshow to do it on the cheap. Not much suprises me with Australian distributors any more. I pretty much buy everything from overseas these days.
