The Elephant Man was released by Universal in 2012. Only copy I can find online is on Trademe, and they want $24 for it...

I'll be long gone but I'm sure someone will say "oh that Transforners film what a f'ing classic" one day

Yeah, I always feel people misuse that term when they apply it to films made in the last 25 years. Blue Velvet is probably (barely) old enough to be considered a classic, but anything later in his career is just too recent.

I'm hearing wind of a glitched UK disc, I suppose it's safe to say ours is going to suffer from the same issue as it's probably a repackage, has anyone heard if that has been/is being addressed? I would imagine it may cause a delay, but word hasn't seemed to have come out if it's an error exclusive to a certain batch or specific circumstances.
I plan to buy this ASAP but I'm not sure I'd watch it soon enough to catch any errors if I had one to encounter

It's believed to be a replication glitch not an authoring glitch so it should limited to a specific batch.

This disc like the new UK one has better encoding, none of that nasty macroblocking to be found!

Not just macroblocking, but the Criterion looks like it has a low pass filter applied to it in comparison. All I can think of is how long we have to wait until a Studio Canal UHD release of that master, since its already done...

I wish Criterion would give Lost Highway a decent remaster and some nice feature supplements. It's been pretty well neglected as far as a decent HD release goes, I don't think our release here was all that impressive.

Also interesting to see the re-rating of MD here from MA15+ to M15+. All of those ratings are bullshit, IMO.

Well, there's nothing in it to justify an MA. Some very mild violence, a brief shot of a corpse and a bit of nudity and girl-on-girl canoodling and that's it.

I've never seen the film, but it wouldn't surprise me if something like that got rated higher back in 2001 than it would now.

Actually I wonder if Laura Harring's hoo-ha is still pixelated on BD? I know it was on the DVD (a decision made by Lynch himself).

I believe it's restored.

The sex scene, upon re-watching, is actually pretty tame. There's no real penetration or humping, it's mostly just kissing and embracing. Two broken women, expressing their desperation physically.

Yeah it's nothing like the near-soft-porn level rooting in Wild At Heart and Lost Highway haha

I'd like to know as well. Not that I'm interested in freeze framing it, just that the prior darkening of it was so badly done it was distracting. Like it was slightly grey with a darker surrounding picture. It could have been done seamlessly.

I picked up the Mulholland Drive Zavvi Steelbook a couple of years ago, replacing my R4 DVD, so I wasn't going to grab this local version.

However, if it is indeed a 4K restoration, I'll be happy to grab one of my all time favorites for the third time.
