Has anybody been able to demo the 8805 and compare the sound quality to the 8802?

There isn't much feedback here on this very affordable high end pre/pro.
I've read somewhere from Europe that the 4K Blu-ray titles with Atmos are non-existent the ones with the front width channels being active. That's a real bummer.

What kind of DACs are used in this little monster?

I've compared Marantz's AV8802A processor with a pair of MM8077 power amps to the AV8805 with the same amps. The AV8805 is the clear winner in overall audio fidelity.

I wasn't expecting the other way around.

I know your kidding, but wanted to say sales are moderate, but steady. We host several special events and invite enthusiasts to our showroom which targets the most interested folks. Marantz was very kind to us and we had the 1st public showing of the AV8802 at the NY Audio Show last November and that generated a lot of sales.

Saturday, May 19th we're hosting the launch party for Technics SP-10P/SL-1000 Turntable with a $100k 2-channel system.

The 8805 uses the AKM AK4490.

Over on that other forum people have been waiting for their 8805's. Marantz hasn't been able to keep up with demand. I was lucky to get mine in the first allocation.

@Robert, what gear is in that $100K 2-channel system? I'd love to see some pics.

If I was in New York I would visit your store in a city minute, meaning fast as in a mission.

I said billions because I'm pretty sure that pre/pros in that range are not for your average audio shopper. But it's great that you serve that clientele.

It is certainly great to see Technics back in the game. Good luck with event in May!

I am in a holding pattern waiting for the Marantz, but I know patience is a virtue. I have recently added speakers in the Auro configuration, so I am at least prepared when it shows up.

Auro 3D Firmware update is here. Not only do we get Auro 3D and bug fixes, but a nice little surprise is the GUI overlay on DV sources.

While I definitely don't have the deep pockets that Wabo has ( ), I need to keep this pre/pro on my short list for a potential future upgrade.

Ha! You and your alligator arms get on over to your hifi dealer and git-r-done.

Are you in the market for a new processor?

Eh, I always try to keep a running short list of what's out there. I like my Integra DTC 9.8 but it's getting a little long in the tooth (~ 10 years old). That being said, it was an absolute STEAL at the time when it came out so I'd have to spend a good bit more today to eek out a bit more performance.

Interesting bit of news. The concern I share is if DTS follows suit and limits their Master HD titles to only have Neural X as an upmixing option, as I have never been a fan. I have primarily used Dolby’s DSU since the day it became available. You might want to repost this in the Atmos thread as many people might not see it here. Thanks for sharing though!

Looks like my 8805 shows up tomorrow! I have to wait until Friday to set it up, but I have waited a few months, so a few more days doesn’t seem that bad. Then I get to go through the chore of unloading the 7702 MKII. I have been holding off on watching a lot of recent Atmos releases because I can’t wait to hear what width channels add to the experience. Matrix 4K is queued up first for sure.
