I have two of these (one upstairs/one down). Purchased in February, 2011.

After being an early adopter with the Sammy 1400, the 5500 is a joy. Loading time is so fast!

I've never had any problems (knock on wood). And have yet to have to upgrade the FW (hope I don't for a long time).

Sorry to hear of your problems. But "chit" happens. And unless you bought your player "used," I'd return/exchange it.

Too late to return it. I've read several reviews complaining about the same things. The fact that it is so region locked is a major downer. I might try to sell this on Ebay and buy me a Phillips brand player. Always had great quality with Phillips.

Can anyone confirm an issue with this player and "Mad Men" Season 1? I've updated the firmware already. The player just churns the disk and eventually stops altogether.

Has anyone ever played the Star Wars Blu-ray on this player? I got the red screen asking me to update it. I updated to the current firmware 1014.1 but still won't play it.

How did you do that? I gave this player to my dad as a present and he has several music DVD imports he is unable to play in it as it only plays region 1...
