And with Nolan overseeing things, they won't be. The timed IP is his prime source for all his digital deliverables (with some colour correction to match the celluloid record as closely as possible, natch).

The Dark Knight Trilogy UCE is getting shrunk down into a standard size packaging. Same discs with the bonus IMAX scenes and exclusive extras, Nolan letter, and the postcards. It drops the book-style packaging, and the toys. Release date is July 5th, and MSRP is $29.98. I believe there will be also be a release with Suicide Squad movie cash releasing on July 19th as well.

Pretty cheap, I'd buy it just for the bonus discs. No toys though haha

I just came here to post the same thing (though much more mildly).

I'm watching the film right now and I'm having a hard time understanding why the BD reviewer gave the film 5/5 in the PQ department. It's rather poor, in my opinion. The AQ, on the other hand, is quite good so at least this release has that going for it.

I think we have to keep in mind when it was written in the relative history of BD technology. The quality of encodes -- and along with it, our awareness of what's possible, of what's to be expected, and even probably reviewers' discernment -- has ramped up so quickly and so far in just a few years, it makes old encodes and old reviews obsolete pretty quickly. (And then of course, there's fads and fashions, like the dreaded Creeping Teal ...)

I don't much like the audio mix on this film. Subjective, of course, but for me the balance between the overloud music/foley effects and the often-whisper-level dialogue is all out of wack. If I up the volume to get the dialogue more accessible, I find the rest of the audio track a bit oppressive.

It wasn't just the reviewer - TDK caused weeks of forum flame wars. People thought it was either the best blu-ray they've ever seen or garbage.

For those who missed the news. Warner Bros is planning a 4K UHD Blu-ray release this year for Europe. And a lot more Nolan movies too.

Poland - November release date
Netherlands - October release date

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.ph...2&postcount=42

A final last chance for Warner Bros/Nolan to fix the current Blu-ray release.

Warner Bros wants to release The Departed, The Matrix, Gravity and The Polar Express on 4K UHD Blu-ray as well.

Do you think they will digitally edit the credits to change "The Wachowski Brothers" to just "The Wachowskis"?
The best number is 73. Why? 73 is the 21st prime number. Its mirror, 37, is the 12th and its mirror, 21, is the product of multiplying 7 and 3... and in binary 73 is a palindrome, 1001001, which backwards is 1001001.
Films I'd like to see on Blu-Ray Disc:
Scarface (1932)
ABC Weekend Specials (19771995) [TV Movies]

They need to just leave the movies alone without changing anything. And that goes for the green tint, too (although it never really bothered me much).

Looking forward to Dark Knight and Begins on UHD.

The Dark Knight is one of the ugliest-looking Blu-rays I own and a 4K release if done properly will be amazing. Never understood the praise The Dark Knight Blu-ray got online, I always thought it looked bad and the people I watched it with commented on how the IMAX scenes looked good but the rest looked like shit.

It came out in the early days of the format, people didn't know any better.

There were plenty of top-notch discs that came out before The Dark Knight including The Godfather Trilogy, Blade Runner, some Bond films and Deliverance. Most modern titles looked fantastic too such as Apocalypto, Sunshine, No Country for Old Men and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. It's not like people didn't have any discs that could demonstrate just how good Blu-ray could look.

It's also funny how the people criticizing The Dark Knight's PQ were labeled as trolls and called blind for pointing out the obvious EE, black crush, sharpening and boosted contrast, when now it seems the consensus is that The Dark Knight on Blu-ray doesn't look good at all.

I'm actually not the biggest fan of the Jesse James disc but yeah, the others you mentioned were solid. I think people were just blown away by the IMAX footage and were willing to forgive shortcomings with the 35mm stuff. Oh well, hopefully we get quality UHDs and good BD remasters for those without 4K. WB has been pretty good so far on that front, no reason to think they'll stop now (REALLY looking forward to The Departed, as well).
