Sadly, only the Lionsgate DVD had a slipcover.

The Blu-ray never did (I pre-ordered it and also saw it on the shelf at Best Buy... no slip).

Truly a missed opportunity.

Thanks. I must have been thinking of something else. I did waste an hour looking around the house for it though hahaha

I was lucky enough to order a used copy of the Lionsgate blu-ray on Amazon for a decent price two Christmases ago and it came in great condition. Disc worked perfectly too.

A shame it has only raised in price since.

Yeah, now I seem to remember reading the Olive BD was a little sharper. Maybe better compression? I have the Lionsgate so probably not worth double dipping?

From the Olive Review here on site...

Quote:
The Monster Squad is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Olive Films with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.36:1. If I had the ability to grade in quarter points, I'd probably give this a 3.75 rather than 3.5, for it's a generally nice looking high definition presentation that is only occasionally hobbled by some fuzziness and lack of fine detail. While the elements here occasionally look just slightly faded, overall the colors are wonderfully robust and well saturated. I frankly never owned the Lionsgate release, but from a cursory comparison of the screenshots it looks like the Olive release boasts better overall clarity as well as a generally brighter ambience. Neither of the video anomalies which my colleague Dustin Somner mentioned in his review of the Lionsgate version is evident in this new transfer (though the first issue, which actually is a few seconds past where Dustin marked it as occurring on the Lionsgate version) appears to my eyes to perhaps have been nothing other than slightly mispulled deep focus).

Had the Lionsgate BD for several years, finally watched it last night. Probably haven't seen this in 25 years, not since my betamax tape. Still a wonderful little film.

I know this is an OOP disc, but have any syncing issues been reported? I used the 5.1 track and felt the audio was slightly off in many instances.

I really wish Shout Factory would get a hold of this, if for nothing else so we can have the original poster art on the cover.

I'm confused... is this OOP or not? Seems to be available for about 15 bucks at Amazon and other retailers.

The bare bones Olive release, which only has Dolby Digital 2.0 audio is in print. The original 2-disc Special Edition with DTS-HD MA 5.1 from Lionsgate is OOP.

That'd be a thing to have, a betamax version of this.

I'm puzzled a little bit because I got my lionsgate 20th anniversary Blu Ray a few days ago. Seems all the features are on one disc, which is great, but the case has 2 disc platters as if a 2nd disc was supposed to be in there? I see the 20th edition dvd is a 2 disc set. I also see that the 20th edish dvd came with the original artwork on an insert card you could use to replace the newer artwork. If only this Blu ray I got had the insert card w/ orig artwork. Damn man...hate to complain but what a pisser.

The Lionsgate 20th Ann. BD is a single disc, no slipcover, no inserts and no reversible cover. The 20th Ann. DVD was a 2-discer. Both have teh same features, except the doc is a bit shorter (and far less repetitive) on the BD as that came out months later and they tweaked the doc.

The case having 2 spots would be one of two things. You got it second hand (not new) and someone swapped out cases for whatever reason (and probably got the cheap 2 disc cases they sold at Best Buy like many of my used discs ended up in), or if you got it new, strange shit/someone done ****ed up at the factory. I can see that empty spot making you feel robbed, but if you have the disc and cover, you got the whole thing.

I wish I had kept that insert from the dvd. I have so many others that I thought I did, but with it not here, that means I sold or traded it to someone from here or horrordvds. All stuff I take to used stores I keep inserts and slips since they don't pay more or less for them being included. Not having it means I cared about whoever it went to.

When I found my blu-ray copy of "The Blair Witch Project" in the Walmart bin some time ago, it happened to have a two disc case. In that situation, I just chalked it up to a rather simple factory error.

I ended up using that case to merge my Skynet and Van Ling Re-Encode editions of Terminator 2 into one package.

I still have a fascination with The Monster Squad. Not because I don;t cringe at it and find myself putting my hand up to my mouth and saying ;" o h man..", but because when it came out on vhs it was a time when walking outside and thinking about sleepovers and movie watching was a big thing and TMS encapsulated that time period. Right before high school demolished my nervous system completely lol.
