The masters are at least a decade old for the 2D discs. There's little evidence of DNR, but there is some EE in all three with more in the first and third films.

The old release doesn't look that bad and has no DNR if I remember correctly.
Hands off the compression button, Music industry!
Hands off the DNR button, Blu-Ray producers!
Films are supposed to have grain!

I've ordered JP3, should get it today.
Yup TLW's BD transfer looks pretty damn good.

Like you said it looks very natural which is surprising considering that it's a Universal catalogue release.

JP3 looks pretty decent if you can get past the EE.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain.
Time to die.

Thanks for your reply. I hate DNR with a passion so glad to hear they're not overdone. I can live with edge enhancement if done lightly. Don't like it, but can live with it.

I still have my DTS lasers, and they sound amazing. They were definitely better than the DVDs, and I didn't do a comparison with my 2D blu, but from memory I would give the laser the edge. I read an article that the laser actually used the theatrical mix and when it was released on DVD they made a new home theatre mix. I don't recall the exact reason, maybe the range compression? But when the 3D was released they said the new mix was closer to the theatrical. So yeah, the 3D version should sound better than the 2D.

Right, after another repetitive, but fun, demo session I'm pleased to report that this puppy is indeed firing on all eight cylinders (counting the sub). The rear surrounds simply aren't active all of the time. During the Rex breakout, there's rain in the rear surrounds, but not when inside the Explorers, which doesn't seem terribly logical since rain isn't only heard from the front and sides when in a vehicle, but there it is. There's no music in this scene and in subsequent scenes music is also heard in the rear surrounds. I also tried the 2D disc and I was struck by how bright and colourful the image was (I still watched the 3D disc in 2D) in comparison. Definitely a cheerier presentation, less creepy, but they both have their place. I'd have to see the whole film on both discs to make up my mind. Not sure if the 2D disc 7.1 HD didn't really sound as good as the 3D 7.1 HD, but that was most certainly the case with the lossy 5.1 Italian track I tried for giggles. Quite apart from the terrible dubbing, it sounded so quiet, so inert, so inferior.

Does the 2D disc have Dolby HD and the 3D disc DTS HD?
Faster than a bullet from a gun. Closer to Heaven than to Earth.
