How do you know? Do you own the Australian edition?

Cover Art for "Frequency" is identical, but the Alliance version is very sub par compared to the US version. Seems like it's hit and miss with Alliance. I have "A Perfect Getaway" from Alliance which looks the same as the US version so you just never know with them. I gambled today and ordered "Prey" from Alliance because it was on sale for $5.95 so will be interesting how it looks when I get it.

You just replied to a nearly 2 year old thread.
"Hey, Joe, could I ask you something personal, very personal?"
"Certainly."
"You know, it really stinks down here. How often do some of your people take a bath?"
"Bath? My God, I don't know...What day is it?"
"Forget it, Joe."

I'm a huge fan of the movie - I'd love to see some screencaps of this compared to the US release (and also whether or not the AUS version is region locked.)

I remember this. All of Sofia Coppola's films have been released on Blu-ray in France. The thing is that they have fixed subtitles.

I REALLY hope Criterion gets their sht together and plans on releasing her stuff! I would even love to see a new transfer for Lost In Translation. She's almost like a female Wes Anderson, so it's a wonder why Criterion hasn't released her stuff yet.

I watched Lost in Translation on Blu-ray for the first time last night. The Blu-ray transfer looks a lot better than my old DVD did, but I couldn't help wondering if there is room for improvement. I would have expected a high definition presentation of this movie to blow me away completely.

It's a tricky call, because this movie was filmed in such a way that the source material has limitations, and the current Blu-ray does well with what is there.

I would not be surprised, however, if Lost in Translation appears as a Criterion title one day with a new restoration that rules all. I hope so.

All that aside, this is such a great movie. It's been a few years since I revisited it, and I had forgotten how much I used to love it. I shook the dust off the soundtrack CD that was at the bottom of a box in the back of my music collection, and I'm listening to it right now.

EDIT:
I'm reading some of the older posts right now from you people, and wanted to address something.
[Show spoiler]Nobody knows what Bill Murray was whispering to Scarlet Johansson at the end. This is intentionally ambiguous in the film. We spend all that time intruding on the lives of these two people, and, by the film's end, we know them well enough to grant them the privacy that they deserve.

I am a big fan of the final sequence, because The Jesus and Mary Chain's "Just Like Honey" is so perfect for the images.

Actually, most of my favorite scenes in the movie are just the ones that have the characters sitting there thinking and looking around at the city while the amazing music plays in the background. I have those times when I just like to sit around thinking while I look out the window, and I treasure that about this movie.

Totally agree. It also gives a sense of longing (IMO) which I feel the characters were feeling.

I don't think any scenes are that hilarious, chuckle worthy, yes. And this is one of my favorite movies ever. Top 5.

One of the most boring and pretentious films I have ever seen. IMHO.

It's astounding how many times the word "pretentious" is used incorrectly.

I didn't like it. Just my opinion. It just didn't work for me.
