This thread has now been restored Blu-ray.com had a database lost where around 7 weeks of forum posts were completely lost. At the High-Def Digest website most of my posts are an exact duplicate or very similar to the posts at Blu-ray.com. I restored this thread that was lost at Blu-ray.com with posts from the High-Def website which is like a running backup in case there is a server data loss. |

Sweet. I've been considering getting the external Pioneer BDR XL drive that was $140. Will have to search this one out since it's only $100.

Don't really know where to post this since I am apparently unable to make a new thread...?
I am in the process of buying parts and building a PC from scratch, mostly for gaming, to be hooked up to an HDTV that I still need to buy, but also to watch Blu-rays with. I've been looking at drives for a while now, and almost all of the ones I can find below $100 are OEM, so they don't come with cables or screws (I don't care about the software not being included, I'll deal with that later Is there a good drive that suits my needs? Ideally in the 50 - 75 dollar range. I don't care about being able to burn blu-rays, just read them. I was planning to order all the other PC parts tonight until I discovered last minute that nothing other than the Blu-ray drive itself was included for the one I had wanted originally. So it is currently holding up the whole process of ordering the computer since I want everything to ship at once so once I've put everything together I don't have to open the case again. |

So if you are looking for a real cheap Blu-ray drive you can purchase a Asus Blu-ray drive for only $59.95 at Amazon with free shipping. It will read Blu-rays at 12 times speed and DVD’s at 16 times speed. Of course for another $40 you could get the top of the line Pioneer BDR-2207 writer that reads the new BDXL Blu-rays discs that are 128GB (All movie discs are 25GB-50GB maximum). But if you have no plans on writing Blu-rays then you can save yourself $40. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 07-01-2012 at 12:01 AM. |

I have the first generation Pioneer BDXL drive (BDR-206MBK). When and if I find time to start burning some optical discs I will then purchase this Pioneer second generation BDXL writer or a future generation Blu-ray writer. I have been so busy with other things I only use my Pioneer computer Blu-ray drive for reading Blu-rays.

Since I am going to install an OCZ RevoDrive solid state drive in my PC, I decided to replace my first generation Pioneer BDXL drive early since I am already going to be inside my PC. Was able to get the second generation Pioneer BDR-2207 for $86.63 with free shipping from Amazon.
