But,... it defaults to a lossy soundtrack so you have to remember that every time.

I have a bunch of older Blus that do this... back then it was a given that a sound system could play lossless.

Technically no, it's only 16 bit LPCM lossless, where the Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA lossless tracks on the other 2 releases are 24 bit.

The UK deluxe edition of Casino Royale features a TrueHD 16-bit track. I don't know what the re-releases DTS-HD MA track is.

If that's the case then that's unfortunate for the UK, however the U.S disc is in fact 24 bit, and I'm 99% sure that the Australian disc is as well, which I will check later on.

My bad, after looking at the link you provided and also checking here

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=3338

I can see that you are correct. I don't own the U.S disc, and what I had read about it being 24 bit, actually come from a few of those sources that are listed as reviews within your link above, including AVS in the comments section. I have the Australian disc (which is superior to UK and U.S deluxe/collectors editions anyway, since it's uncut, therefore I wouldn't want to own the U.S or UK versions regardless) and I was informed it is 24 bit, however I might have been given misinformation, so I will check it's audio bitrate later tonight when I get home from work.

Right, here are the specs of both discs below (I also own the original LPCM disc and can post up the specs for that too, but I don't think it's necessary as it definitely is 16 bit). I was half right, the Australian Collectors Edition disc is only 16 bit like the U.S and UK versions, however the Bond 50 Casino Royale disc is 24 bit, therefore it is the superior version.
