It is nothing like Angel-A. And City of Angels was garbage, I'd only call it a remake in the very basic idea.

It was a Lightning Deal this morning, so they probably shifted a bundle of copies.

Why is there no dubbed english track? I bought this and started watching it last night but did not feel like reading subtitles for 2 hours so I turned it off.

I suppose there is no dubbed english track because the 'proper' way to watch a foreign film is with the original sound track and subtitles, no?

My biggest problem with subtitles is you cannot look away from the screen for even a second or you may have to back it up and see the subtitles you missed, that and you have to concentrate on reading the subtitles and cannot concentrate on seeing the film.

There is no question I will have to back it up at least a few times when I finally sit down to watch this one.

Criterion rarely includes alternate languages on their releases. The only time they do is when the alternate language has some historical signficance.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is the only Criterion Blu-ray and DVD to offer three language options. That is only due the fact that Paramount was pretty much done with the production of the disc when Criterion requested to license it.

Default Wings of Desire

Criterion's Wings of Desire BD is just outstanding. As foreign language films go this is my favorite along with Last Year at Marienbad.

By the way, my copy plays fine. I can't see any scratch on the label side of the disk either.

One of my top 10 movies.
Love it! My favorite Wenders movie.

I have bought it by release and had no problems with the Disc yet.

I hope "Until the End of the World" (Director's Cut) and "Don't Come Knocking" will be released on Blu-Ray soon.

It would be VERY DIFFICULT to do this justice with a dubbed track as the writing is VERY poetic.

We can only dream... The DC of UTEOTW was released on DVD in Germany (or was it Italy?) a few years back so maybe there is hope.

I usually like art movies, but I could not stand this one. The look of the movie is amazing and I loved the scenes with Peter Falk. I just could not stand the constant poetry. Seemed pompous and artsy for the sake of being so. Just my opinion.

Could be.

It's VERY different from "Paris, Texas".

Depends what you hated about Paris, Texas. My guess is you will not like it.

I doubt it.Gave it a chance, but found it just boring. Not to say it's a bad movie, just that I didn't connect with it.Others have found it brilliant, and since you've already bought it:watch it and make your own mind up.
Don't complain Kubrick isn't around anymore when you have Fincher.

No offense, but I can't wrap my head around the "I blind bought it but haven't watched it yet. Will I like it?" logic. Why did you blind buy it if you weren't sure if you'd like it?

With that said, Paris, TX and Wings of Desire while directed by the same person, have completely different feels. WoD is much more "poetic".

I can't speak for him, but I blind bind a lot of titles from studios I like. For instance Criterion. Sometimes for the express purpose of not knowing a single thing about the movie so I have no percieved idea of the film going into it.

I attended a Q&A session with Wim Wenders and Bruno Ganz in December. Both consider Wings of Desire as their best work and so do I. Fantastic film.

I regret not getting Wenders' signature.

Saw this thread last night and took my copy out to see if it had the scratch. It does. It's on the inside curve of the large 'C', just at the center. Looks like a small razor blade slice, and as the other poster mentioned, you can see light through it quite easily when looked at from the reverse side (in fact, even knowing the general area to look, I didn't notice the actual scratch/slice mark until first seeing the light shine through from beneath).

Took a quick peek at the scene others have said froze on them (Cassiel follows Homer along the wall as he leaves the library) and no problems there, but will be watching it in its entirety tonight to be sure.
