Warner has never owned the home video rights to these films in the US.

They are only distributing the first eight films because of distribution deal with Paramount for about 600 films that was signed last year. This home media distribution deal is good for three years.

That would be a marketing team issue, where everyone is apparently under the age of 25 with no background in film, and only knows how to crunch numbers. (Thus, the "wonderful" 100th anniversary output from Paramount last year.)

I'm joking... sort of.

JGTH is underrated, Jason X is ****ing piece of shit with annoying special effects, mindless callbacks and grating characters.

WB is releasing them - later this year, in fact. They've been pretty explicit about that.

this thread is interesting as hell.

the F13 fans are seriously divided on two things, Jason x over JGTH, and Kane Hodder vs everyone else that played Jason.

I just find it interesting that these two things keep popping up.

that scene from JGTH where Steven Williams is in the jail and gets asked for answers but breaks a finger for each answer the guy wants makes me laugh and cringe at the same time.

Jason X isn't great at all, but Jason Goes to Hell is ****ing terrible. That movie is pretty much unwatchable to me as a pretty big fan of the series.

My rankings of the films:

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th Part 2
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood
Friday the 13th Part 3
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning
Jason X
Friday the 13th (2009)
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday

I never got the hate for JGTH, I saw all the movies on the USA Network back in the early 00's and it was my first F13 rental which I later bought when Blockbuster closed.

Aside from the biggest complaint about Jason not actually appearing enough and the semi-silly bodyswitching, I don't see much wrong with it. It was certainly better than other horror franchises when doing the "last movie" gimmick.
Freddy's Dead turned into a 3D comedy cluster****, Halloween: Curse Of Micheal Meyers nearly killed the series with its bonkers cult storyline and Micheal succumbing to a lead pipe or magic stones.
Alien3 killed off every likable character, depressing its audience...then Phantasm Oblivion had to make due with deleted scenes and virtually no advertising.

I like to call JTM, Jasons Magical Voyage To Canada.
Listen, do you smell something?

The big problem I have with Jason Goes to Hell is that it doesn't feel like a Friday the 13th movie whatsoever. Jason is barely in it at all (yes I realize that he wasn't in the original either but let's be honest the big reason the franchise was popular was due to Jason) and the concept was pretty silly. While I won't say other entries in the franchise were exactly logical come on, people eat his heart and get possessed by his soul. Really? Also a big thing to me is while the others had a sense of campy fun this one just lacked that all around to me and wasn't an enjoyable watch. The best part of the movie was the end tease when Freddy's claw drags Jason's mask to hell which was teasing what a lot of people at the time wanted, Freddy vs. Jason.

I don't get your confusion. Paramount owned the rights through the first 8 films, New Line gained them in the early 90s for Hell, X and VS.

The remake was co-sponsored by New Line and Paramount and muddled up the sequel that was set to be made right after the release of said remake.

To be a co-partner on Paramount's new film, Intersteller, New Line/Warner gave full rights back to Paramount earlier this week.

So any FUTURE films in the Friday the 13th, at least in the next 5 years, will be released by Paramount.

What about that weird scene where Jason takes the cop, strips him naked, shaves his stache and then becomes him. WTF???

Hell has it's moments, but it just does not feel like a proper FRIDAY film. THat score was so B movie-ish too.

But that girl having a monster orgasm and then being ripped in half was probably one of the best kills in the franchise.

So technically I was right....Warner owns the rights for 3 years at least. And it sounds like they are gonna make good on releasing them within the year as well.

I really don't care who owns the rights, I just want the films on Blu already!
