I received a UV code for the Unrated version which I heard from a friend can apparently be used to redeem both the theatrical AND Unrated versions of the film. Unfortunately, they don't remember how to do this and I can't seem to figure it out. Anyone know?

If not, does anyone have a preference....Unrated or Theatrical? I am assuming Unrated??

The BD is set up to play automatically in an English dub

I hate dubbed tracks

Theatrical = compromised version for US R rating.
Unrated = director's original intended version (in this case).

A 'concerned parent' might get the R version to show kids during a sleep-over, otherwise get the version the director wanted everyone to see.

I've only ever seen it with the Shinoda score (Uk release doesn't have the original option )but it gets me suitably hyped each time I have seen it so I suggest that one, then make sure you watch the second film too

Either one you choose, just enjoy it

I saw the second film at the cinema for my anniversary and it was without a doubt the best film I have ever seen on the big screen in terms of an experience.

It was a small intimate cinema room, all the guys there clearly convinced their other half's to go with them and the reactions to some of the scenes just elevated the movie in every possible way.

The couple next to me winced at the same points my missus did - I cant rate the film highly enough.

If you enjoyed the first one I hope you do the second too.

There is barely any difference between the R and Unrated versions of this film. So it almost doesn't matter which version you see first. So the 'concerned' parent bit is hilarious, since the film is extremely brutal, that the two cuts in the R version don't diminish the nastiness of the violence.

unfortunately I didn't like the second one as much as the first

it's a well made movie, much better (not even comparable) production values, but still Redemption was more fun

I can appreciate that, most people think the same from what I gather

I think the fact its alot longer and tries to fit a plot in works against it for most people, the fun of the first film is its simplicity and bloody execution

In my case the experience at the cinema really elevated the movie so I hold it on par if not slightly above the first film - that fight in the kitchen

Just saw this movie twice this week. It was that good! Can't believe I haven't even heard of it before. I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a great action flick.

Two of the greatest action movies ever made! Both are brutal as hell but while the first one is mostly about the action, the second takes on an almost art house style approach and it works incredibly well.

Too bad we'll have to wait years for the third one...

A fan of Dredd 3D would definitely have a lot to like about The Raid.

Different directors, but Iko Uwais (Rama) is in a new movie that's going to premiere at TIFF next weekend. I've seen the poster all over social media this week. Movie's called "Headshot" and also has Julie Estelle in it, who, besides being smoking hot, is also Hammer Girl in the Raid 2. Hopefully that movie will be a good enough fix until The Raid 3.

That's a movie I've been looking forward to. Hopefully it releases on Blu-ray soon. Or at least on VOD or something. I just really want to watch it.

I feel the same way. When the poster started making its rounds, I immediately checked to see if maybe Indonesia had a release date yet for the bluray that could be imported since it was released there in early July. Maybe we'll get some info after next weekend.

Thanks for the headsup!!! Had no idea Iko Uwais was coming in a new film with Hammer Girl. Definitely on the lookout for that. I remember buying this as part of the Sony BOGO savestation deal at Best Buy and just hearing from a few members on here how it was a solid action film. When I popped this bad boy into my blu ray player and watched on the projector I was absolutely floored. I have never seen such gritty, realistic action in any movie before. It was so raw and effective, I felt every kick, hit, and punch. This didn't look like acting to me at all and it just went on and on and got better and better when I didn't think it was possible. That last fight is still my favorite fight in any movie ever and this si my favorite action film of all-time. I've shown this to so many of my friends and they were all floored. It really was a gamechanger in the martial arts action genre and I can't wait for the third one to come out. I'm really hoping Iko Uwais can become an international superstar. He deserves it, such a likeable lead and has a certain charm to him.

Bought this yesterday at Best Buy for $10; wanted the sequel too (wish they offered a two-pack of both) but it was substantially more. Awesome fight sequences, though I was disappointed in the Blu-ray's somewhat confusing presentation in the menu selections (I recall renting this when it first came out but can't remember if it was on DVD or Blu-ray) -- once the trailers are done, you get to choose from "original music" or score that was penned by Linkin Park's creative brain, but when I selected "original music," the DTS-HD MA track defaulted to a Mandarin-language mix...I didn't realize (and it doesn't indicate this in the menu) that you had to select the Mike Shinoda music track in order to access the (horribly dubbed) English language DTS-HD MA mix...

At any rate, I didn't think the video quality was as "bad" as the review here made it out to be; it wasn't quite reference-grade, but it wasn't flat and lifeless...at least not for most of it. The Master Audio track was alright and really opened up during gunfire sequences and scenes requiring atmospheric support (people yelling in the bombed-out apartment complex, guns firing in off-in-the-distance rooms, etc.).

Really looking forward to getting Raid 2, as I recall the end fight sequence in that one to be REALLY over-the-top and exhausting to watch!
