Sure, many public libraries offer a wide selection of movies, but YMMV on Blu-rays (I definitely can't trust my local library on their Blu-ray selection). And some have started purchasing rental versions of new films.
But Redbox still has Blu-ray discs to rent, which addressed the question. Selection size wasn't the issue; being able to rent Blu-ray discs at all was.

Does Mechanic Resurrection have lossless audio on the rental disc?

Thanks,

It would be nice if they suddenly stopped doing this. Really makes buying movies off Family Video more complicated than it needs to be.

Yes very true, I now check to see what audio it comes with and pass up buying on FV with some of their movies.

A national video rental chain, after a month or so most major movies are for sale as ex-rentals for $10-5 on their website, with the occasional sale. All the other studios have full audio on their rental discs but LG's usually do not so it sours what would otherwise be a great way to snatch up titles.

I don't think Lionsgate sympathize with used purchase burdens.

Lets face it, from banding on some titles to this, Lionsgate doesnt much care about anything...

You "like" Velvet's follow-up remark but seemingly miss its/the point. What Liongsate is doing is working in your case insofar as it's "souring" your purchase of cheaper, used copies of movies which the studio likely sees little to no revenue from. Tamping down on those aftermarkets and incentivizing sooner-rather-than-later purchase over rental is their point.

This, along with other such strategies plus Katniss, is the means by which a mini-major aspires to play with the Big Boys.

Not to come off like a shill or apologist but this isn't fair/accurate. There are kvetchers about every single studio's behavior just a click or two away on this site alone. There are "shallower" catalog titles than, say, Glengarry at nearly every other studio which have not seen the light of "Blu." And Lionsgate's support of UHD at this point is more solid than a couple of the majors.

At least there is a way around this gimped audio issue (namely, the rental boutique that stocks the commercial releases instead of the "Rental" versions of Lionsgate's movies). On the other hand, there's for instance no way around, say, the global absence of certain other studios' titles from the BD format 10 years on. Count our blessings.

Look, I am strictly talking about the PQ and AQ history of Lionsgate/Summit blu-ray releases. I read blu-ray reviews, and I watch them, they are notorious for lack of effort with PQ. Im not saying they dont do well too, but their stripping of lossless was no surprise to me...

I really could care less, my audio system is good enough, if I wanna watch it I either buy it or rent it, and do not worry about it.

I may be in the minority, but sometimes when I'm not sure if I'll like a film I'll rent it first and then if I like it go and buy it retail. But yeah I do think it sucks that they are doing this but it isn't surprising because I noticed I think Universal stripping the special features from their rentals. My first encounter was Fast Five. I think it's crazy because it's not like we are pirating. I have films I know I will buy like Marvel films but others I like to preview first. Sucks being penalized for that. I do feel like more people care than they realize. Because in my experience the people that don't care still rock dvd players. No joke. I can tell my enthusiast friends from the ones that think they all look and sound the same lol

Is there a list of rental Blu-rays around here where only lossy audio is offered?

There must be a mere fraction of a percent who care about such things, but it's those few who the studios rely on to buy and rent dozens and dozens of films per year.
Panasonic BDT 460 | JVC RS600 | Stewart ST 100 [2.35] | Marantz AV7005 | NAD M27 | Elac Uni-Fi UF5, UC5, Debut B6 | Focal CMS Sub

The ones that contain lossy audio are noted throughout the thread. Basically, it's any title that will fit on a BD-25 with lossy audio.

They definitely have banding and compression issues sometimes, though it's not as pervasive as people say in my experience. Compression issues are something TV settings have a huge impact on though, so it likely depends on each setup to some extent. And I've never been someone who notices banding that much. My bugaboos are compression and aliasing.
