So my sister is turning 40 this weekend and, as per usual, isn't very happy about it.
Any ideas for what to get her? She's not about things having to be extravagent. Just wondering if people have ideas of what they've done for their sisters or best friends or wives for their 40th, when they're not very happy about that particular birthday.

We need some more info....Whats your $$$$$ limit what are her interest? Just because it doesn't have to be extravagant doesn't mean that she doesn't have nice taste and or she may be humble. Or she may be more practical and likes to save.

a day at the spa and then a night on the town (have some dinner, go see a movie, stop by the coffee house on the way home)......and i'll wait for the snide comments about a brother and sister "out on the town".
yeah it's not an object she can hold in her hand and show to her friends, but trust me, she'll remember it for a long time.

Well, my sister is a SMBC (single mom by choice) so she doesn't have a lot of free time away from my niece...but she also likes it that way. She likes to spend as much time with her as possible.
I would have no problems spending a few hundred dollars on her. I don't make a ton of money but 40th only happens once and I'd like to make her happy. I got her a few things that she asked for (subscription to In Style, CD, shirt) but I'd love to do something special.

Get her concert/show tickets and a dinner or treat her to a few hours at a spa then cap off the day with a nice dinner.

A Camera is a excellent idea. Nothing like capturing your memories in film and print. With today's tech you can get a decent camera that does both for short change. If your parents are with you, yall can go out to dinner and use the camera to get everyone's pic as they celebrate her bday with her.
