+1... oh so agree with this assessment. Rushed and abrupt without a doubt. Like they tried to 'squeeze' in 2nd and 3rd acts... I felt the same.

Finally got around to using the Moviecash that came with the new Blu-ray--I was literally the only person in the theater for a late morning showing.

As someone whose first reaction to news of a remake was, "Christ, no!," I can't believe I'm saying this, but...it really was not that bad. Nowhere near as good as the original, duh, but really...not that bad. It does't quite live up to its ambitions, but it was a worthy effort. I'm not going to do some big essay, just a couple of points:

Nice to see Michael Keaton in something again, until the script lets him down at the end and practically has him twirling his mustache while tying Robocop's wife to the railroad tracks.

Biggest problem may be that I just did not like Alex Murphy before the transformation. The actor/character was just a block of wood, nothing about him stood out for me. Peter Weller's version really seemed alive with a just a few short scenes. (Maybe it's because I already knew and loved him as Buckaroo Banzai.)

I have a feeling the movie may grow on me, and I would consider picking up the Blu-ray once it drops to bargain prices. (Which is more than I can say for Robocop 3...)
--Reality is for people who can't handle STAR TREK.

I hope they do a sequel. They had to know the remake would have to overcome the opinion of the original and the bad original sequels.

I liked the new Robo, and he'll be silver for the sequel, so bring it on!

The most interesting part? In China, it was released in 3D - the only country which released the converted version.

Why bother converting it, and not release it that way anywhere else? weird.
I wonder if there will be a 3D BD option when it comes out.
it has been discussed on the 3D forum, it was a Chinese co. that converted it in 3D. same thing happened with the movie 2012.

I'd love to see that film in 3D. The excessive nature just yearns for it.

Its just simple math.
There have been many articles about how this is not performing well at all here domestically and a sequel is not likely .

I would like to be proven wrong because I didnt hate the movie and I would like a sequel but the numbers are pretty bad especially since the advertising budget was very high as well for this one.
DVD / Blu-Ray sales will have the final say so in determining a sequel being made.

All post box office (BluRay Disc, DVD, On Demand and ratings new and in syndication on basic cable, broadcast television and premium cable) sales have the final say not only in whether or not there will be sequels and prequels, but with overall failure or success in the long term.

With extraordinarily few exceptions, box office sales are strictly short term (which they will definitely be with the Robocop remake just like the better and more successful original Robocop) and do not have the final say not only in whether or not there will be sequels and prequels, but with overall failure or success in the long term.

BTW, I gave the Robocop remake 4 out of 5 stars on the poll (though I really would do 3.5). The original Robocop, however, is definitely 5 out of 5 stars.

Has anyone seen the post converted 3D version? Apparently it was only released in this form for China and got shocking reviews.
