Could be worse. I've been called "edgy" for liking this movie.

I remember growing up how upset I was that Leonard Maltin gave this 2 stars in his Movie Guide.

Are the 2011 Digibook edition and the more recent 4K master different in picture quality? Based on the former's review I thought that was 4K as well.

They are both from the same 4K master, its just the 'Mastered in 4K' edition has a slightly higher bit rate at the expense of the special features from the 2011 edition.

The PQ is maybe ever so slightly better, but it's very marginal.

Yeah, don't fall for the hype. I'd rather have a extras packed edition than a barebones release with a negligible improvement in picture quality

pardon me for not reading all 93 pages so perhaps this has been asked already: does anyone know if the japanese remastered in 4k blu-ray has exact the same PQ as the BDs from other regions?

Agreed! The Taxi Driver regular Blu is fantastic, and has superb PQ (for the most part). And the extras are great in this regular Blu version: There are a load of documentaries, interviews, etc. have given me a greater appreciation of the film and what the creators (Scorsese, Schrader, etc.) were attempting to do re: the film.

Should be the same transfer from Sony across the board.

I'm not so much into these things, but the contrast of releasing a cutesy figure of one of the most disturbing characters ever captured on film is too much for me and I have to get this:

"I couldn't think of a more horrible job if I wanted to. And you have to do it. You have to!"

This toy makes me get nostalgic for the following reasons: When we were kids in the 80's, my brother and I thought it would be a great idea if they made the following:

1. A Top Gun pull string Maverick doll that only says curses (during the flight scenes there was a lot of cursing in a PG rated film. Didn't stop our parents from letting us watch it over and over, lol)

2. An Emil from Robocop candle that melts after you light the wick:

True story: I'm almost positive they actually made this. That or the melting Nazis from the end of 'Raiders'.

I felt the same way about Roger Ebert giving Blue Velvet one star.

FYI - I thought fans of the film may be interested in a great article celebrating TD's 40th anniversary:

This film was #1 at the box office the day I was born (in its eighth week of release!)
