I took his post to mean that he's only posting that one time so that he shows as an active member and can enter contests. I have high doubts that he'll ever post again on the forums. Like I mentioned, I know that he's not the only person that has done it, but I much much MUCH prefer contest winners to be members that utilize the forum/community over general hit and runners just looking for a freebie handout.

I know what you meant and I agree, he's/she's definitely doing it just to get in on a freebie. I still don't have a problem with it. When I came to this site 5 years ago, it was because they were giving away a movie I wanted (I don't even remember which one). I wasn't planning on being a part of a community, but I looked around and saw how cool this site was and the rest is history.

Sure, this site has a few leeches but it's worth it for the others that stick around and contribute.

[Show spoiler]p.s. If I hadn't come to this site 5 years ago, I could've save a lot of time and money

By active member I was actually just referring to the fact that someone has posted one time on the forum and is therefore "active" online... not the actual Member Rankings. But I was curious after reading your question and it appears that "Active Member" is a ranking for members with 100 - 399 forums posts. All rankings can be found here.

Maybe I am eligible to win. There seems to have been a winner that has less than 10 posts and they won a surround sound system...

I've noticed that in some giveaways, it's all-capped...

NOTE: THIS CONTEST IS OPEN TO THOSE WITH U.S. SHIPPING ADDRESSES ONLY.

But now I've noticed in almost every giveaway says in the paragraph...

The contest is open to Blu-ray.com members who reside in the U.S. but with no pre-warning (aforementioned).

Is someone using the wrong copy & paste or simply dropping the all-caps warning and that everything is just U.S. only?

I live in Canada, but have someone in the USA who I can have prizes shipped to if I win. I've been given the to participate and qualify for all contests with those warnings.

I was fortunate enough to have won a copy of CRIMSON PEAK. Very happy, as I missed it in theaters. Thanks to the forum, a place I value greatly for its members and information.

I just got my notice this morning about Crimson Peak too! Can't wait to see what Del Toro has done with the Gothic ghostly romance genre since it also skipped out of theaters here rather quickly.

Are all giveaways moving towards US only? The last 7 or so have been.

Scored a copy of Crimson Peak as well. Thanks again to Mr. Brown and the best BD enthusiast community on the planet. I already saw this on Vudu. Mr. Del Toro delivers the goods. Looking forward to seeing this again but on a superior format.

I posted about the issue earlier but no response. Perhaps quoting my OP along with your own query might get a response.

No, all giveaways are not moving to US only winners. However, you'll notice smaller studios often attach that requirement to contests. The larger studios tend to give us more flexibility.

As to the difference in verbiage, some studios require winners to be US residents. Others require that we simply ship the prize to a US address. Slight difference, but one I'm sure that's born from different legal requirements established by different studios.

Thx for the explanation. I just wanted to make sure that the verbiage was entirely correct, and from what you've explained, it makes sense (US residents/US address only) that it's two differing issues. Thanks again.
