Isn't this one of those Sharpioneer players? If so I'd pass.
I got one by mistake and it was awful. Couldn't get past the horrible interface and all the Netflix crap. I returned it and grabbed a 23FD off of eBay and have loved it ever since.

Probably depends on where you live too, there is no price difference in the US (when I take a quick glance at Amazon.com) so if you aren't willing to do a lot of research, I would suggest the Oppo. Most people around here enjoy them. Of course it becomes a different story when you live in the Eurozone like me and have to pay a whopping 190 euros (235 dollar) more for the Oppo over the Pioneer

For me Oppo has some advantages - costumer support ( better than Pioneer ) and 7.1-Channel Analog Output ( Rare to see it in other BR players ) , Pal/NSTC conversion . But the truth is ..... if you are not in to that and you use your current player for movies and it works .... i would put my money maybe in a sound system ![]() Just my 2cents |

@ Aquel
I read a lot of great reviews of Oppo 93 about 2 years ago I think. Oppo 93 is about 2 years old and is it still the best player ($500 range)? I thought there is something better came out for $ 500 range. BTW, if I choose Oppo 93, I could pickup at their headquarter in Mountain View, only 10 minutes driving. @ Almadacr I only watch dvd and blu-ray, so upscale dvd and picture quality is important to me Last edited by muathusanjose; 07-08-2012 at 03:37 PM. |

The Oppo customer support also gets praise while I have seen a fair share of criticism on the Pioneer Customer Support (per 2 AVS forums threads I have fully read). I do know from a French review that the Pioneer wasn't rated that high with DVD upscaling but again, it got quite some firmware updates in the mean while so it could have been improved. Overall I think the only advantage the Pioneer has over the Oppo is an anti-jitter method called PQLS, but that will only work with Pioneer Receivers (and also has it's problems). To be honest I see little reason to choose the Pioneer over the Oppo when you live in the US and pay the same price for both.

I can get a brand new Pioneer 53FD for under $300 tru dealer pricing. Do you think I should still pay $500+shipping for oppo?
I can also get the 52FD for $250. I only want superb BD playback, DVD-A(I have a few) and SACD playback tru HDMI. My receiver can accept DSD(Yamaha A3000). I won't ever play DVDs or streaming on this player as I have dedicated DVD player tru Crystalio II |

I read alot about in the AVS forums (but I didn't pay it much attention since I don't have a Pio receiver).
I think audio dropouts and no audio but I'm not sure.

Ok. I have PQLS enabled, my player and receiver only support 2 channel and multi channel, but have had no audio drop outs. Although, when I enabled A.Delay, audio drop outs were present. I haven't tested that setting with PQLS disabled, as that maybe down to my display.

I have to say that I have the European version of the 53FD (LX55, much cheaper than the Oppo BDP-93 here)) and I'm quite happy with it. Can be a bit noisy at the start but that usually goes away after a short while. I have not noticed any bugs/errors (FW 3.18), though I only use the Blu-ray, DVD (Audio), and (SA)CD playback, not any internet/networking capabilities.
