Haven't seen any Triple Layer burners in American markets... Nor 100GB media.

If it's not interesting to you, you don't have to reply...

for the price of the 100gb disc, I think I would wait awhile.
Have only recently been looking into a blu-ray burner, but I may pass on that one.

I've had a burner for a while - but have only burned 5 discs.

I actually can't believe they are still this steep! The tech really isn't that far different from DVD's.

I agree, I expected the price to decline by now considering BD has caught up with DVD. The price of movies has dropped significantly since BD was first introduced. I won't buy a BD player/burner until BD-R or BD-RE is available for the same price as DVD-R. It will take a while but they have to drop sooner or later.

That price for 1 disc is nuts. Anyone who pays 90.00 for a 100gb disc needs help

Blank BDXL are massively expensive because they make so few of them, plus multi-layered discs are inherently complex.

I could not stomach burning a $50 disc, imagine if you got a coaster!

That's why I'd just get a hard drive for backing up data, then keeping it stored somewhere. I know, I know it's not the same and doesn't offer the same portability. I recently got the Pioneer BDR-2207 which can burn these discs but I won't be trying that anytime soon with those prices. I'll be busy ripping my BD collection to my HTPC.

It is not a matter of portability. HDD failure for long-term inactive drives is extremely high. They are completely useless for archiving critical data.

Can I get some data on that, please?

And BD-R is much less secure than static hard drive storage - I've had a couple of BD-R discs fail with read errors in as little as a year... So what exactly are we supposed to use for reliable archival data storage... Magnetic tape?! Lol!

The only sure-fire way is to have Raid arrays backed up with multiple copies on other backup media, and those backup media copied over to multiple new media every so often... yay.

Some brands of blank media are more reliable compared to others. Some optical Blu-ray discs can last up to 100+ years. I would recommend using Verbatim Blu-ray discs for reliable data backups or for HD video backups. Also a Pioneer BD recorder computer drive does a good job of burning optical discs.

All Verbatim Blu-ray discs are backed with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and a 40-year history of quality and reliability.”

I've been using Taiyo Yuden discs for over ten years and none of those discs have failed or degraded. Great stuff and very cheap.
