1 1/2 years? That would be disappointing indeed.

It's not, it's an educated guess.

Just wondering, are most Disney movies getting Diamond Editions? I mean, how does Disney decide if something gets a Diamond Edition or a regular edition? For example Tarzan I'd love to see a Diamond Edition for, but my guess it'll just eventually get a regular release.

Anyways, according to the wiki:

Sleeping Beauty 10/7/14
101 Dalmatians 2/3/15
Aladdin 10/6/15
Pinocchio 2/2/16

From the Diamond Collection press release:
Quote:
The new Blu-ray Diamond Collection represents The Walt Disney Studio’s most prestigious animated classics. The Blu-ray Diamond Edition Discs will be comprised of 14 of Walt Disney’s most treasured animated classic titles to be released through 2016. These titles represent the highest level of picture and sound, feature groundbreaking, state-of-the-art immersive bonus content, and include unprecedented levels of interactivity, personalization and customization, only made possible by Blu-ray technology.
And yes, it is likely that the next 4 Diamond Editions are the ones you posted. Anything outside of these 14 or so "prestigious classics" (Tarzan included) will just be regular releases.

Fall 2015? This really sucks, Aladdin came out on DVD the fall after Lion King so why are they waiting so long for the BD release?

To officially make it "the most anticipated Disney blu-ray of all-time?"

It could still happen down the road. They did it for Toy Story 1&2, Cars, Bolt, Up, and potentially/likely Frozen. Believe me, it's Disney we're talking about. It's all about the $$$.

It's being held to promote the broadway musical launch. When the musical is up for a bunch of Tonys and they are trying to push tickets is when you'll see Aladdin merchandise being re-rolled out. Disney home video seems to be around solely to do tie-ins with other products. Mary Poppins was held for saving mr banks, frozen 3D to push a re-release in theaters, sleeping beauty was pushed up to coincide with the home video release of Maleficent.

What if the musical isn't nominated for any Tony Awards? I mean it didn't exactly get stellar reviews.

People should just import the UK version, the picture and sound are awesome. It's region free and fairly cheap. My kids watch our copy once a week.

Trust me, I've considered it many times, but I wan't my collection to look uniform.
100: An American Werewolf in London
200: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
300: The Sandlot
400: Citizen Kane (Digibook)
500: Brazil (Criterion)
600: Iron Man 3 (3D)

On and ever upward.

Disney selected their 10 best selling movies on VHS (later expanded to 13) and formed the Platinum Collection. The Diamond Collection are exactly the same 13 but released in different order.
Pre-Ordered: The Lego Movie, Looney Tunes Vol. 3.

that's why you import the german version like almost every other disney title. It suits almost every US slip.

Exactly, that's why it will not happen. The sales of all those discs have been really poor. Pixar is just finishing up their collection since it's easier to re-render 3D for their product, and Frozen's going to happen, it's just a matter of when...

But as for 2D to 3D catalog conversions at Disney, it's dead.

I tend to agree...though if it were to happen for another 2D catalog title, I think Aladdin would be an obvious choice, both for its potential thrill factor and the Broadway tie-in (which has actually gotten pretty good reviews, from what I've read, starting with the Gray Lady).

Likely none. Whatever the next edition is will probably have a few new titles (likely frozen and/or Tangled). Lots of rumors of it being a "crystal" series, but I wouldn't count on that at all.

There were 14 because originally Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 were included instead of Aladdin but afterwards they returned to the original Platinum line-up so they're 13.
Pre-Ordered: The Lego Movie, Looney Tunes Vol. 3.
