Check the 7.88 bin at your local Wal-Marts. I found the remastered version in there today.

Can you clarify what you mean please? If I'm understanding you, you're seeing black bars to the left and right of the image. If your display and player are set up correctly, you shouldn't be seeing that.

Thankfully I never owned that version and imported the remastered disc so I am not entirely sure what iRyan means but he isn't saying black bars Paul.R.S. as he mentions see through vertical lines.
Film=Priority,Packaging=Not really bothered.

I was thrown by "threw," not to mention "trim."

I grabbed the Miramax version at Best Buy yesterday, 2011 release date. I believe that is one of the remastered versions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as long as it's the Lionsgate re-release like I bought yesterday, it should be remastered. That and I'd be surprised if any of the old Disney/Miramax copies are around anymore.

Just picked one up today at Walmart for 7.88 but it has the first cover on it without the gold perimeter. It says Lionsgate/Miramax. Is this the remastered or did I get stuck with a messed up disc?

If you look on the back on the bottom right corner it should say in a box "2010 Bluray Release". If it does not then it is not the remastered version.

Oh no, mine does not say that. It does have ultraviolet code that says it expires in 2015 but not sure if that helps any.

I'm in the same boat... I have the 2014 re-release with the UV code that expires in 2015 which I assumed would be the remastered version but I watched it tonight and it didn't look good... I'm almost certain I got the botched transfer. Is there any way to tell by the disc if it's original or remastered?

I think it should have different numbers along the inner ring of the disc playing surface (I know Gladiator has different numbers for the remastered). Can't say for sure, but it's a solid theory.

BVDL-074220B1 AND BVDL-074220A1 are the numbers on my 2010 remastered version inner rings.

The cover is different for the remastered version. In any event, the original disc has PCM sound and the new disc has DTS-HD Master Audio sound so that's another way to tell them apart.

Hmm well my disc had the DTS-HD track but the image was very underwhelming... I'm not hard to please either. I even cut the transfer a lot of slack during it's dimly lit indoor sequences that were frankly quite murky and lacking detail. Somewhat waxy or unnatural looking faces and clothing being pretty common, as is black crush and I expected to see noticeable film grain throughout but very rarely saw any. Not to mention the colour timing looks somewhat anemic at times.

While I was watching it, I remembered it was made in 2002. Many movies during the early 00's featured a kind of unpleasant look (does anyone else know what in talking about?) and I wasn't sure if that's all it was. In any case, the transfer didn't look right to me and if I really do have the remastered disc, then I'm a bit baffled by any praise it got... I definitely need to look into this further.
