I get the distinct impression that the Bond franchise is purposely avoiding American directors, just to keep the franchise distinct from all the other action films coming out of Hollywood. I don't think that unspoken policy will change with Bond 24, or any other Bond film for the foreseeable future. Honestly --- 23 straight films from the biggest film franchise in history, and not a single one used a director from Hollywood. That can't possibly be a coincidence.
I'm not trying to belittle your opinion because it may well be true, but do you believe they're just trying to avoid American directors or directors from any country not connected to the UK in some way?

Christopher Nolan is not a particularly suitable choice for James Bond. Nolan takes his movies a little too seriously. What I really want to see is Matthew Vaughn take a shot at Bond 24. I think Vaughn can inject the right amount of humor and slickness to go along with the action.
I kind of agree and I kind of don't; the same thing could have easily been said for Mendes -- I mean, after all, he'd made almost nothing resembling an action film until being chosen for Bond -- and yet Skyfall turned out to be one of the best in the series, because it balanced the whole serious drama thing with some great action sequences.

Nolan has the potential to make a great Bond film given the chance, but I agree that his style might have to be shoehorned in to fit; he likes going against the grain, taking chances with films, and that might be the downfall when dealing with such a tremendous franchise such as this.

Don't understand all of the Nolan hate. I think a lot has to do with the large fan base he's accumulated from Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy more than anything else, you know...like his ACTUAL directing style...

I'm not hating on Nolan at all. I just don't think he's suitable for Bond. Nolan's films don't have a sense of humor.

I don't think he would be a good fit. I would rather have him do the girl who played with fire.

Paul Greengrass, I know too obvious.

Paul Greengrass would be the worst thing to happen to Bond since...well, Marc Forster. That would be very, very awful. Please no.

Would Love to see Nolan as Bond. Hope that Means Michael Caine makes an appearance. Maybe Christian Bale can be the villain.

I'd much rather they hire Ridley Scott. I think he'd be perfect for Bond and he's certainly not getting any younger.
I browsed through the forums and wondered: What kind of Blu-ray collection defines me as a person?

Perhaps James Mangold would be a suitable fit, depending on how well he does with The Wolverine. I much liked what he did with 3:10 to Yuma, and I think he could do Bond some justice.

I think in terms of tone, Nolan could be an interesting choice, he might take it in a darker direction, though for me Fincher and Nolan are cut from the same cloth, both are superb filmmakers. However if Nolan gets it, then prepare yourself for another blurry looking, orange skin tone mess of an image.

I do think Nolan might end up doing a Bond film, just not so soon after finishing his Batman ones. And unlike Spielberg, who professes a similar love for the Bond series, I don't think "now, they can't afford me" will be a problem with Nolan.

And if/when he does do his Bond, you can best believe that there will be a role for Sir Michael Caine in it. Even if they swap out Ralph Feinnes so that he could guest-star as M for a picture.
