But if the first, I assume, Xenomorph(queen?) was birthed in this movie. What face hugger implanted the space jockey that crashed on LV426?

Maybe that will be answered in the next movie . Then again maybe not .
A possible scenario is that the queen takes the engineers corpse to one of the other ships . Manipulates it into firing up one of the said ships and then has a crash course in drivers education . Perhaps while sending a text at the time .

In Alien the jockey is described as fossilised so you could infer from the timeline established in Prometheus that the ship on LV426 was sent 2000 years ago to infect earth but crashed on the way and has been sitting there for 2000 years before the Nostromo finds it.

Very well could be. What year was Alien based?

It wasn't the first Xenomorph, as the species was already depicted in the mural in the urn chamber with the giant statue of the Engineer's head. More likely it's a new breed of Xeno, created out of a unique set of circumstances in which Dr. Holloway's initial oral infection from the black goo was sexually transmitted to Dr. Shaw, who then later gave birth to the Trilobite that ultimately impregnated the Engineer. Just what exactly it's relevance (if any) to the overall Alien universe is remains to be seen. Roll on Prometheus 2

Alien took place in 2122.

Watching this again for the first time since getting the BD. It really is a stunning film. Even with a couple bumps in the script, the atmosphere of the movie is so alluring. Definitely remains one of the most unique films of the year.

To each their own, of course.

I wish Helen Horton ( voice of Mother in Alien) was still alive when they made Prometheus because she could have played her Mrs. Wayland, which would have been another treat for Alien fans.

There were no treats for Alien fans in Prometheus.

I was gonna say - I watched it again because I watched Alien and Aliens and wanted to see how it felt when viewed close to the other two films. My opinion remains unchanged. The film is disappointing when comapred against the superior Alien and Aliens. It also doesnt really feel like a prequel but Im not convinced it was supposed to be, even though the final shot does show us a beta-version of a Xenomorph.

[Show spoiler]The plot remains a tad messy and most character actions are dubiously stupid at best. Just a lot of stuff that simply makes no sense. Weylands "goal" was to extend life....right? So, if they were going to use Charlie as a guinea pig per say, wouldnt that have made more sense if Charlie had the same ailment as Weyland? Instead, because they needed to make David bad and needed to get rid of Chuck, they pulled the old "finger in the drink" trick. Lame. Same for Shaw and her predicament. It added nothing and was out of context for the purpose of the trip. Lots of stuff like this that just makes you wonder. Its lazy writing, IMO.

And, lets not even go to the lack of character development and absurd actions taken by what are supposedly scientists, biologists, and archeologists. In Alien, the characters are just grunts who are trying to get through the workday and for the most part they make smarter/better choices than the PHD-wielding scientists on Prometheus.

One issue I also have is how they took a very interesting, intriguing creature and dumbed it down to just another "science project gone wrong" type of thing. I didnt want to know that. I wanted to keep the mystique of the Alien alive instead of killing it like they did here. I dunno - sometimes knowing LESS is better. Like in Star Wars how Darth Vaders true father is never revealed and we can speculate all we want about it. Thats fun. Imagine if Vader just turned out to be some cloning experiment gone wrong? That would destroy the character, IMO.

Its not a bad film per say and has great production values and all that. But, when compared against the former two great films, which it has to be, it comes up rather short. It has its moments..... but as a whole it has too many issues for me. Part 2 is going to have to be lights-out awesome if I am to keep the series on my shelf.

Prometheus sequel is officially happening
EntertainmentMoviesNews

In a suspiciously low-key fashion, Fox has confirmed that this year’s hyped science fiction smash hit, Prometheus, will indeed have a sequel.

The Ridley Scott is-it-or-is-it-not prequel to Alien that grossed over $303 million worldwide will air its follow-up in 2014, with Scott, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender commited to continuing the cinematic legacy.

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof, however, will not work on the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox’s president of production Emma Watts has emphasized that audiences must remain patient for the peroration as the studio and ““Ridley [Scott] is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it.”

Interestingly, Watts has overseen sequels from both the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises (take that as you will) and word on the web is that after part two, viewers can expect an epic third instalment.

Question

Quick question to the people who would know:

What's "collector's edition" about the 3-Disc Collector's Edition? The 3 discs? Or is there more to it?
I haven't gotten this movie on BD yet, so I'm wondering if it's worth getting that version. Since I missed out on the SteelBook a time ago.
And this one also includes the 3D-version actually, which would only be a small extra to me. I kinda hope it includes more extras or something...

The US release?

It's 4 discs...and it's the only way to get the 3D disc and the supplemental features disc featuring a 4 hour documentary on the making. It's well worth it if you're interested in the film .
