I had this fear regarding The Jerk, fortunately it has been like two years now since I bought it, I'll feel just fine making a day 1 purchase if The Jerk ever gets the blu upgrade. This exact fear has also prevented me from buying another DVD copy of Thank You For Smoking after losing a copy in a breakup.

Since starting my collection, I will not buy anything on DVD. If it a movie that I want to own, it will have to wait until the Blu-ray comes out. The only DVD's that I currently hold onto are the TV series' of Friends, Seinfeld, and Newsradio. I can get rid of the Friends since the Blu-ray's are out.

I bought the DVD for The Get A Life series because there's no way that's ever coming to blu. Hell, the DVD was held up for more than 10 years!

Recently I chose the Monster DVD over the botched blu ray. Did I make the right choice?

For new/recently released titles, I always choose the Blu-ray. For catalog titles, it depends on the price. I won't blind buy an older title on BD for more than $6.
