Default CLOSER - Outrageous Title using AVC

Closer Blu-ray (Image re-issue)

Closer Blu-ray Review (Sony issue)

POSTED on THIS link :

http://www.dvdauthority.com/reviews.asp?reviewID=5065

A quote from their website:

"Wow. The 1.85:1 MPEG-4 HD image is so much better than the Superbit release I don't even know where to start. Gone are the little artifacts that plagued the earlier release, colors seem more stable and solid and contrast is much improved as well. I don't know if the old disc was that bad or this new one is just that good, suffice it to say I really don't care. This is a much-improved look for the film and I love the way it looks. While still not a perfect transfer in terms of other Blu-Ray discs, this is a very noticeable improvement and one that I'm happy to give a near perfect score."

Haven't looked at it yet - working on some new tweaks to our reviews instead. But this is another Sony release that exploits BDs audio storage capability with 2 PCM tracks (English and Italian) and 5 more DD tracks, plus beaucoup subtitles.

Hehe, first time I read that I thought "What, there's no B&D in that movie."

It is a pretty good movie though.

Another Review for Closer on DVDfile.com

This is a very fine film that earned Owen and Portman both Golden Globe Awards and Academy Award nominations. The dialog is smart and lucid, the social mores dissected with unflinching candor. The transfer is outstanding and the audio is excellent.

Thumbs up

Excellent blu-ray that was definitely worth trading for, especially seeing Natalie as a stripper in HD. Still think she should've won the Oscar.
RIP Navster, you were someone I considered a friend and BD.com will always remember you.

I wonder if the new Blu-ray release is the same transfer? Or if the quality will be any better or worse. Kind of waiting to buy it until I find out.

I hadn't even realised it was being released again. Does this new release have additional extras compared to the original one? If not, why is it being re-released?

It's being released by a new company now. Image Entertainment instead of Sony. The Sony Blu has been discontinued. Features are all the same.

Borrowed the DVD from a friend a year ago and picked up the official Sony version about six months ago. Loved the movie, albeit it can be slowpaced for some. I haven't watched my BD yet though...

I'm looking to pick this title up, but I'm curious as to the PQ & AQ of the new Image Entertainment release. The recent re-issue kind of complicated the purchase.

I would assume it's the same transfer that Sony used, which if that's the case, past reviews show that there's no reason to be concerned.
