Just to clarify, as I can't find a solid answer so far in the thread:
Is there any difference between the 1-disc and the 2-disc other than the digital copy on the 2nd disc? Does the 2-disc have any bonus features not on the 1-disc? |

I bought this for Nicole Kidman.
![]() I think John Cusack played an amazingly believable degenerate psycho and the performance was a little wasted on the rest of this. Had I seen this 15 years ago, maybe I would have thought differently. It just feels like this movie reached and stretched and fell short and if you are looking specifically for a story with messed up visuals and shock value with a point then your time would be better spent seeing Irreversible. I have to say though...Nicole Kidman's fake upper lip made her perfect for her role in this. She really was trashy swamp girl in this movie. |

Since people are comparing these two, I admit I liked Killer Joe more. I watched The Paperboy last night and while the performances were great, I'm still not sure what to make of it. I was a little stunned as the credits rolled. I don't feel the various plot points gelled into a cohesive whole, but I was never bored. And Zac Efron in his tighty whities for a lot of the film never hurts!

I'm sure a majority of people on this thread actually like the movie, but I thought I would just state my opinion anyways for blind buyers sifting through.
I could not get through to the end. I think I had to stop after the publication of the article by Yardley and [Show spoiler] . It was very confusing exactly what was going on. With the dialect of the southern characters and the sporadic editing and quick narration by Macy's character to catch the viewer up with the pace of the plot, I lost interest fast. I couldn't understand the relationship between Charlotte and Hillary so early on and why she acted the way she did to many inmates. SPOILERS AHEAD (no tags): We see Hillary in literally maybe two scenes before he is exonerated from jail and have no sense of the actual trial. What was the purpose of the newspaper writer's efforts to prove his innocence? I know the narration was coming from Gray's character, but why so much context on Effron's character? (reminder:didn't stay to the end) I appreciated Kidman's performance. I thought she was incredible! We also finally have Effron providing some depth. McConhaughey was nothing but average, only cause he didn't have enough screen time to utilize his character. He's been much better in other roles. I can see why this film was so polarizing, and I have to admit I'm on the side that disagrees with this being a quality film. Trust me, I was hoping for it to be great, with the cast and Daniels' direction, but I couldn't lie to myself.

If anyone is going into a Lee Daniels film in the hopes that it will be similar to a Gaspar Noe film, visually or thematically, they deserve to be disappointed.

Finally got around to watching this earlier, and loved it! I wish there were more films with this look and feel. Personally, I also prefer Killer Joe more, but I did enjoy both.

Watched this last night.
It wasn't as bad as people have made it out to be. I think it was better than Killer Joe and it kept me interested throughout. It just fell a little short with me. I do think that it's worth seeing for Kidman's performance alone. |

I agree with most of all points, I found it to never be boring, I was never confused, I thought everyone was good in it, Macey Gray was awesome, often hilarious, and Kidman went for broke. After all the bad press etc I heard about the film I was kind of unsure so not expecting much it surprised me.
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.
