So from the thought provoking camp can someone shed some light on the thoughts it provoked?

I thought one reviewer who described the backdrop of the movie as ”chthonic mumbo-jumbo, pseudo-religious, pseudo-biological, and pseudo-mythological bombast” basically hits the nail on the head in that it is all dross set dressing with nothing insightful or intelligent to say.

Seems to me that any movie that raises the age old questions: Who are we? Why are we here? is thought provoking.

Even more thought provoking is: Where will the sequel take us?

I couldn't agree more. I can obviously see the flaws of Prometheus, but, there's still something alluring with this film.
My hope is, if we do get any sequel to Prometheus, it will only enhance the overall experience of the film. I know that this sounds like a back-handed form of praise(ie; "the only way to enjoy Prometheus is by watching the 2, or 3 films together")...but, I sincerely believe this.

Here's hoping any sequel does happen, and adds to the overall narrative and experience!!

Well, you would hope that that is EVERY writers/producers/directors/moviehouses intention. Though it never pans out that way.

In the case of Prometheus, it wasn't a commercial flop but it wasn't an absolute hit. I think the home media sales are quite high which indicates a "cult" following. I think Scott and the writing team tried too much with Prometheus (especially since it was only intended as a 1 film only movie), so perhaps they can learn from the experience and expand on their rather ambitious "Engineers" universe, their intentions and the "meaning of life" (and perhaps answer some of the questionable, unanswered questions about the film).

I think it's a great setting to expand into a trilogy and that there'll be more consistency and cohesion within the stories and concepts.

Like you said, one can only hope
